FWIW, I don't think that $45K is a good price. But, most vehicles seem overpriced right now.

If you go by MSRP, Jeep and Ford are right there with the 4Runner, if you compare 4 doors. So, maybe the entire country is living in a bubble.

I only bought mine new because used ones were going for only a few thousand less than new. I paid ~$38.6K for a vehicle with a $42K+ MSRP. All of my previous vehicles have been used, generally bought with high mileage.

Sometimes I wonder how many of the members here were influenced by this scene, whether they realize it or not. I still have a soft spot for a lot of the '80's Toyotas.

My thoughts exactly and i would buy one. Give me simple, reliable and relatively inexpensive. Also, mavrick and santa cruz trucks look like trash so those done count. I am referring to something of the likes of old toyotas, obs ford rangers and s10s

My dad had that exact truck in red when i was 4-5yo. When i got 15yo and got my first job i saved every penny and bought a slightly wrecked 89 and put a new front end on it and painted it and fixed it up. Boy that truck was so sharp when i got done with it. It was a white 89 4wd and those body lines were absolutely tits when you put a wider tire and wheel on it. Whew i miss that ole girl.

Might work for urban commercial enterprises, but that is still a chunk of cash. I think I’d be looking for a low mileage used vehicle that is more fully equipped if I had $28K to spend.

Does such a vehicle even exist anymore? Used truck prices are insane even with high mileage

Yes, you can in fact find a used truck under $28k. Why do you guys think this is impossible? No, there are no Trailhunters at this price point, but that is not what we're talking about.

    https://www.autotrader.com/cars-for...r-20000/hillsboro-or?mileage=100000&zip=97123

Edit: I saw the low mileage clarifier: that's probably the biggest factor, and what someone considers low mileage probably varies a lot from person to person.

Used Tacoma prices are insane. Frontiers not so much. There are a few 3rd gen 2022 Frontiers (V6 4x4) in my area selling for less than $28k.

But those are 10 years old. I’ll take the new vehicle for a little more money.

Sure, I could see many people making that decision. I would also not buy a 10 year old car if I could afford newer.

But the argument has been that used, cheaper trucks don't exist, and that's just ridiculous. Not saying they're the best value around, but when you're on a budget, you're usually stuck with what you can get.

I don’t consider buying a 10 year old vehicle a viable option at least around here with 10 winters of road salt eating away at everything. You’re just asking for trouble buying something that old.

Have you seen the truck in person? 15k is low for a relatively low mileage Titan for today's market, makes one wonder what's wrong with it.

I wonder how what percentage of those have the latest and greatest iPhone, stop at Starbucks every morning for their $7 latte, always seem to have money for Taylor Swift concert tickets, go on vacation every summer, bought or rented the most expensive home/apartment they could possibly afford, etc., etc., etc. We all have our priorities. Most Americans seem to find a way to buy what they really want.

What I've learned over the years is that most people don't care about the price of a vehicle. All they care about is the monthly payment. And that's why so many people wind up with 84 month car loans, which is just nutty in my opinion. So, I'm sure there's a large segment of 4Runner buyers who don't care about the $60,000+ price tag as long as they think they can possibly afford the monthly payment.

There is a reason why financial literacy is not taught in high school anymore in most states. The government revenue depends on personal debt spending, the states and localities often get sales tax, then annual personal property tax, then gas tax every time one fuels up, on each car that gets sold, not to mention corporate taxes on interest revenue on the payment buyers.

But hey, as long as they get social media "likes" on IG, Tiktok, what have you, the dopamine high will keep them going until the next payment due date. That's how we came to this juncture where 45k cars, in a country where with taxes included it's just about the average annual take home net pay, are now considered by many to be "normal".
