Hi all. So I just got an 87 with no rust, all the right options and only 140k on the clock. My goal is to do an extremely meticulous restoration, enjoy this lovely machine for a few months then sell on BaT.

So in this restoration I plan to go far beyond what one would do on a typical car flip. I'm planning on laying dynamat, painting the undercarriage with POR-15, that sort of thing. My thought is that when bidders see the unnecessary but nice extras it'll solidify in their minds that a quality job was done here and not just a simple respray.

So to that end, I figured I'd just go ahead and replace any wear items that might detract from the driving experience, even if they're passable. (Within reason, if something is fine but a nine hour job to replace I'll leave it)

I was hoping you fine folks could point out wear items on the truck that it might be a good idea to replace. If you could also let me know what a good replacement brand would be (like, what is absolute top end and what's a quality but less spendy alternative) that would be incredibly helpful as well!

    TIA

If I see an undercarriage coated in POR-15, I think it's got major rust issues.

If it's truly not rusty, just has some "patina" leave it alone.

If you haven't listed/bought on BAT previously, take a couple hours to review comment section of previous sales 1st gen 4Runners. Unless you take multiple clear pictures of the frame before applying any product to it, the peanut gallery will take the same stance as @negusm.

Well, I've listed on BaT before but I'm also neurotic so I've read every N60 4Runner comment section since Jan/24 on BaT. I've also manually scraped the data so I can quantify it.

I'd love to clean up the frame and paint it with encapsulator. Not doing to feels half finished. But everyone seems to be telling me not to
