Are there seriously no tail light guards available?

My gawd, some of you guys are brutal.
Taste is a personal thing. The OP works hard, saves $$, buys a 4Runner and wants to do what "he" thinks looks good.

Having said the above, I PERSONALLY hate the damned things. Had 'em on my FJ. They rubbed up against the paint and started rust spots. Washing the truck was a pain, couldn't get my wash mitt in there to properly clean the lens.

Problematic? What issues have you had?

There are tons of accessories depending on what you want.

Cheaply made? Are you talking about the lack of electronic gizmos? Mechanically, they're still considered one of the most reliable vehicles made.

I'd hate to see how disappointed someone is going to be if they switch to a Bronco hoping for a less problematic vehicle. o_O

It's hard to tell sometimes. You're probably right, and I walked right into it.

But, it seems like every few weeks on Tacomaworld someone joins the forum just to warn everyone about how unreliable or (insert fake problem here) the 3rd gen Tacomas are. It makes you think people are serious, especially when they're new to the forum.

I was thinking maybe it was starting to leak into this forum.

The trick is to not touch the 4runner. If you do you will scratch or dent it. I'm with you on not buying another. Once the TuRD rots out, I will restore/build something pre 90's and forget all about the nanny state elections.

Guards like these are nothing but a snag point to me. I don't like snag points. I can almost hear the sound of sheet metal bending if something gets caught in that pointed bottom corner.

Yeah I’m with you I have already replaced a tail light backing up from a ditch from a tree branch that speared it I think something protective would have saved me a few bucks
Some of the quotes make me think that a lo pro or full bumper would be useless in their thoughts

Giggle. A year old. Filled with self righteous elitist asshats proclaiming why they are right. Sounds kinda DNC'ish.

More so, how are you going to mount them. Wranglers have external bolts to mount to the tub. 3M tape? #giggle.

They just get ripped off anyway.

Besides the 5gen don't need no guards, the lenses are strong as hell. Saved this whole 4Runner from damage. Don't even need to be replaced after that.

I guess something like this could be fabricated for the rear fender, if the owner already has a steel rear bumper and sliders:

JFC I missed that the first time around. I've laid some rants down in my time boy - but that one, over the roof crossbars, was epic.

I wonder if he ever figured out that was 100% user error?
