I’m looking at wheels for my 2006 Sport, it currently has 17” with 265/70/17s, can I use any year 4Runner wheel? I like the black TRDs (and some other stock wheels), but I think the offset is 15 compared to 30 for a stock 4th gen - any issues with the wheel sticking out .6” more than stock?

You should be good with the TRDs et Al... even FJ wheels can work... shouldn't be an issue if you're only upsizing one size. Worse case is you can heat up your wheel liner with a heat gun and massage more clearance. I did a body chop for slight rubbing with my '13 Trail Edition wheels holding on to 255/80/17 (skinny 33s)...

Ive got the black TRD wheels (OEM) with 265/65/17's with no rubbing issues. When these tires are toast im going to move up to the 265/70/17's and still don't expect any rubbing. To answer your specific issues, no issues with the more negative offset compared to stock.

I’m very happy with my $200 set of Sequoia takeoffs with 265/70/17s and Spidertrax spacers.

Thanks! And no worries about trail rash. I see people running $1500 wheels and wonder whether they stay on the pavement or just don’t care if the wheels get fouled up.

Are you running spacers with the Sequoia wheels? I see they often have a 60mm offset.. double the 4th gen t4r's.

Yes, Spidertrax 1.25". Before and after, back when I had my OEM wheels.

What is the factory offset of the Sequoia wheels? Just trying to figure your total offset, so -32mm for the spacer, and probably 17x7.5 +15 for the wheel, so maybe about -17 net offset? For my 2006 I’m looking at aftermarket black wheels and most of what I like are 17x8.5 with 0 offset, so the poke would be almost the same as what you have now. I like the look.

From my research it looked like +60mm was the Sequona offset.

Fj wheels look like they have the least offset to me. 0-10mm depending on the style.

Well…I don’t actually know. I wasn’t as aware of such things at the time, I just found wheels I liked that I knew would fit the truck, then put them on with the spacers and really liked the look. Technically, I suppose it could be called a happy accident. LOL

I was a little bummed because there were some Tacoma wheels that I really, really liked, but discovered some people saying they were grinding on the larger sport front rotors. Then others said they were fine with the larger rotors. The cheapest I could find were about $400 and I wasn’t willing to gamble. These:

    IMG_0807.jpg

It’s funny though, I’m glad it worked out that way because the aesthetic on these would have looked out of place. My truck has nice paint, but some dings and trail pinstripes, so it would’ve looked kind of mismatched to have beautiful, flawless wheels.

I’d like black wheels against my dark gray, but other than expensive TRD wheels there isn’t much used OEM to choose from. I’ll probably keep searching for used or find a Discount Tire / Tire Rack deal. Interesting info about the Sport rotors.

Skinny 33s are more likely to rub with +15mm offset than with +30mm offset. I specifically got a set of 4th gen wheels for cheap on FB Marketplace to run my 255/80-17 Duratracs.

Black TRD SEMA or Pro wheels are +4mm offset by the way. Silver 5th gen OEM wheels are +15mm, as are the 6-spoke silver FJ wheels.
