2014 SR5 undercarriage rust

Hi all - how must under carriage rust is too much? Is this a structural concern? I see some areas that might need repair, feedback appreciated. I live in CO and the truck is from NE.

 

That looks like a hard pass. There is serious rust on the frame, the welds on the frame and the cross members. The previous owner probably never treated the frame with wool wax or cosmoline.

 

It’s probably ok, but I’d want to check the front body mount behind the front tires. That whole area rusts worse than others on the passenger side because the AC drains over it. The other spot to check is under the radiator, especially around the tow loops.

Seems all 4runner always sell at market prices even with a rusty frame. Wish people wouldn’t pay that much for stuff like this.

every time I see picture of rusted frame 4Runner, I want to cry and beat the crap of the owner. just $60 for Amazon Fluid Film and 30 min time would prevent all that rust

I am in the NE and have looked at a lot of pre owned 4runners when I was looking for mine. For an 11 year old car that to me does not look terrible as it looks like it was never washed properly after winter or had any protective coating applied. I would recommend taking a hammer and tapping all along the framerails, listen for any big changes in sound, lots of rust falling down or through the holes. That frame is likely OK unless it is rusting badly from the inside which is kinda hard to tell without using a boroscope into the rails. If it checks out solid enough it just comes down to price, to stop it getting any worse you are looking at 2 - 3 weekends work with a pressure washer, wire wheel, paint and FF / woolwax all of that should be factored into the price against a similar one with no rust on the frame.
