I was curious if anyone has had the deflector rub off paint on grill trim piece? I adjusted the hood bumper but to get high enough the hood won’t close. Suggestions or is this a problem with these? Tia

I ordered that, first one scratched, second replacement scratched and I looked at the install and said no way I don’t want this.

Long story short went with Xpel film instead on hood. Could not be happier. More money but nothing is cheap.

My buddy installed his and had lots of alignment issues and ditched it overall.

I installed a deflector early on, and could tell immediately it was going to rub the paint on the upper grille surround. Removed it that day and sold it.

I don't have a weathertech, but i did apply small strips of clear vinyl wrap if i thought there was a chance of rubbing. I did the same, where the rear visor thing rubbed the paint from the lift gate.

I installed one and noticed a small spot of painted rubbed off the upper grill surround within a month or two. To the trash it went.

    FWIW, the AVS rubbed too.

No rubbing issues with the OEM Toyota deflector in my case, maybe give it a try?

I thought they quit making OeM. Do you have a part number?

How did you get those plastic inserts out with ruining the paint? They are stuck in there.

How did you get those plastic inserts out or have you left it? I’m afraid it may cause more damage to paint in the sheet metal holes

They popped right out with a trim tool. A couple of them just fell out.

I wouldn’t worry if you are to leave them in though.

The part number I got for my 2024 last September was: PK175-89L00

The part number changed for the 4Runners that have the safety sense system vs those without.

I have TSS but when I type that number in at my local Toyota it doesn’t pop up. Thanks!

So I took my deflector off and notice wear spots under the hood in about six spots. Do people experience rust under the hood?

I googled it and it only showed up at Canadian dealers.

You can adjust the hood so paint won't rub off. But even if it does- it's in a spot that's not visible, and it's plastic so it won't rust.

Guaranteed rusty paint chips on the hood or maybe rubbed off paint on plastic that doesn't show? That was an easy decision for me.

Only alternative is clear film on the hood, which I didn't want.

In addition to PPF I also have a hood deflector. I drive a couple mountain passes in the winter where they gravel the absolute living crap out of the roads and even the PPF gets nicks taken out of it from the rocks thrown up from being passed by other cars.

The AVS bugflector II rubs a little as well. The screws on the underside touch the plastic air damn on the inside. The front of it will scratch the top of the grill over time. Just throw a strip of clear vinyl over the top of the grill. This protects it. :anonymous:
