New to this group and have recently purchased a 2021 4Runner TRD Off-Road.
Last weekend, when I turned off the engine, I left the rear hatch open for a few hours while cleaning the rig. My headlights never turned off and the battery was so weak that I had to jump it. Is there a 'lights off delay' setting where I could set this to 15 seconds, i.e. something other than 'indefinitely' ?
I have not found anything in the manual, or on this forum, so going to the 'experts' here !
    Thanks,

If you've got a door open and the ignition on accessory, like if you're listening to music while cleaning, you need to turn the headlights off on the stalk. I assume you leave the headlights in "auto" mode, so with the ignition on and doors open the lights won't shut off automatically in this condition. I've been caught like this before as well. It's annoying, but just one of the little 4Runner idiosyncracies.

similar, but key is out..engine off...headlights are probably on AUTO....just left the rear hatch open for a long period of time. Some manufacturers have a variable setting on how long the lights stay on, but have not found it yet on this Toyota.
    Thanks.

Don’t think the 21 TRD Off Road has auto-on/off headlights. Auto bright/dim yes. On/off no.

My 21 Venture doesn’t either. Our 22 Limited does tho…

Changing settings like timing of lights can be addressed in the hidden menus and require an ODB2 manager like Carista, etc.

There’s some settings in the headunit

Menu > Setup > Vehicle > Vehicle Customization > Light Settings

but whether they require all doors shut and or locked to take effect is another question.

I m not sure about headlights but if my 2019 hatch is left open (no key in ignition) interior lights will shut off after 30 minutes.

If it's not a setting on the head unit (the options changed in 2020 when new head units were introduced IIRC) you can still do it via Techstream or Carista. I set mine to turn off when the driver's door opens, which makes the most sense to me and which would eliminate your particular issue.

There is a setting under interior lighting which you can choose how fast they go out. As far as leaving say the rear hatch open, or a door, for me anyways I always turn off the back dome light, and the rear hatch lights. I never really need light back there.

and I’d like to think in my head it’s saying some juice somewhere down the line. I think I have mine “auto timed” out at 7.5 seconds. And I turned off my DRL, so ambers only light up when the stalk for the lights is on DRL. I don’t like the idea driving around with lights on during mid afternoon lol.
