Does any one know how to disable the low fuel warning that asks me if i want to map to a gas station using the toyota native navigation on the headunit? The interwebs and AI says no because its a safety feature. However, it takes over the whole screen and forces the driver to look away from the road and click “no” and also select the maps app again to see directions. One could easily argue this forced process is actually not safe.

we already get the light on the gauge cluster. Why do we need an intrusive redundant alert on the headunit that forces user input?

Edit: Please only respond if you have something helpful to add. No need to be a pointless critic of others like the below Jerries

I dunno. Don't let your fuel get that low? And, it doesn't force you to do anything. Ignore it if you think it's a distraction. It's ridiculous how dependent everyone has become on maps to get anywhere. One could argue that maps are a distraction, which they are.

One could argue that staring at a map instead of driving is actually not safe.

*quick glances at the map. Could also argue you aren’t being helpful. Your responses are always crass and dimwitted. Id recommend you find another hobby

I can let my fuel get to any level. It does force me to select “no”.

Am i supposed to be sorry for using a feature that shows traffic so i can efficiently get from point A to point B ??

if you are going to be a jabronie and not help, please dont post

Seems I'm not the only one with common sense.
There are plenty of arguments as to why you shouldn't let your fuel level get below 1/4 tank. But, you do you. Does it really "force" you? Now I think you're making shit up. And no, you shouldn't be sorry about using a mapping device, but know it IS a distraction.
You already have your answer. Because everything on the internet is true, and AI is totally infallable.

I wonder if that's a dealer-adjustable feature? Or maybe you've already looked into that.

Hmm good thought. I can call the dealer tomorrow and see if a service advisor knows anything about the popup message.

@andrewtheadventurer You haven’t indicated what model of 4Runner you have, but you can probably turn off that warning.

    Menu>Detailed Navigation Settings>Low Fuel Warning Pop-up>Off

Pages 114 and 115 of my Navigation and Multimedia Manual.

Don’t let the peanut gallery get to you.

I just came back from a +500 mile RT, got as low as 22miles on the 'distance remaining' display...no low fuel warnings anywhere.

Yeah. I agree with others. Don’t let your fuel level get that low. It’s bad for the fuel pump. Not trying to start shit with you but it’s not good for both safety reasons and mechanical.

I could see where's there's times you probably have no choice than getting that low. Have anyone ever driven through Kansas? There's literally only ONE fuel stop in the whole state on the highway. Seriously only one.

I have. It's very flat, boring and empty. I once coasted into a gas station because I thought "Yeah, I have enough to get to the next 3 gas stations!" Then I didn't see another one for 50 miles.

Helpful hint: The ignore button works wonders. What's really fun is to click the button that pops up on the bottom of a thread when an ignored person posts. It then unblocks them in the thread so you can confirm they still post stupid shit.

Go forth and ignore with impunity!
