I'm trying to unload a 2004 4runner V8 limited edition. in good condition overall but rencently had the car towed to mechanic as the car suddenly would not start. They thought it was the starter but turns out the wiring harness needs to be replaced, along with other wiring issues. I bought the car used about 3 years ago and one of the prior owners had a tracking device installed. mechanic says they spliced a bunch of the wires.
Anyhow, mechanic says I'm looking at $8 to $10k in work. I paid 10 for and don't want to invest any more $.
Sell for parts or as is? only 218k miles on it and runs great (when running).

if interested, I'm in northern california. ping me back. color is white

I would get a second opinion and just try to repair what needs to be repaired from what sounds like shoddy work by the previous owner.

Yeah, get another opinion. Sometimes, people quote really high because, to them, these "hot potato" repairs are outside their comfort zone and would rather not deal with it.

    Edit: IMHO, a rust-free (?) west coast V8 4Runner is worth saving.

    This sounds very, very wrong.
If it caused by wrong splicing you can fix this yourself. Will take some elbow grease but it can be done.

I read somewhere that toyota uses soy based coated wires..

Are you sure a mouse didnt do the splicing?

Mice chewed my brothers ford explore harness all to hell because of this.
