I just recently picked up a 91 4runner with the V6. I had the head gaskets and timing belt done. Any recommendations to improve gas mileage besides driving conservatively? I read these have 17 gallon gas tanks but got down to a quarter tank with only 142 miles. Makes sense because a lot of of The miles were in town. Had a 98 that didn’t do much better just wanted to see if there are any other recommendations for a new owner. — thank you!

Find a place that has 100% gasoline and run it for a few tanks and be easy on the throttle. You'll see about 15% improvement in mileage over the blended gas we have today.
That vehicle was tuned to run on 100% gasoline. You will see a fair bit of improvement your first tank, and more improvement your second tank, and finally settle around +15% better by your third tank.
