Check the tire pressures then just start it up and drive it.

Hopefully you have ethanol free gas in your system.

id personally pull the spark plugs, pull the C/OPN fuel pump relay and I would crank the engine over with the starter until the oil light goes away to prime everything.

Ethanol free gas is not required in modern fuel injection systems.

Honestly, I'd just hook the battery back up, check the tire pressure, and drive it.

If you hadn't changed the oil before storing, then I might change it. But, it seems like a waste to change it before and then after sitting. Maybe double check the level and call it good. :notsure:

Thanks everyone, I did fill it with ethanol free gas and put fuel stabilizer in it.

The only thing I’m having second thoughts on now is that I can’t remember if I left the E brake engaged or not. It is sitting inside my garage, not exposed to the elements.

I would not stress about it until after you get it started back up and drive it around. If stored inside, I do not see any issue with the parking brake sticking. Then again, If it does, You should find out fairly quickly if it is.

Why are you filling with non ethanol after the fact? Its not going to do anything before or now.

Just check fluid levels, gas and go.

I've had outboards sitting longer with less worries.

And the cabin filter for mouse nest. Don't want to be breathing mouse urine for a year.

I think there’s some confusion. I filled it with non ethanol before leaving it 3 months ago. My post was asking if there’s anything I need to do before starting it after taking it out of storage.

Yup. My boat motor sits longer than 6 months every year with nothing special done to it.

I noticed that now. My bad. Still wasn't needed but its done already.

If mine sits more than 2 weeks I'm dying to go. But it did sit for almost 8 months last year with the re-power. Checked fluids and fired her up.

Stupid question, but can you tell me how exactly to do this? If I’m understanding correctly, I’m just pulling fuses for this?

Or does it involve physically pulling out the spark plugs themselves?

Mine is a 2024 push-start if that makes any difference.

I think pulling the fuse for fuel pump should prevent actual starting.
    Your battery needs fully charged.
As mentioned some internals are splash lubed by the churning of the connecting rods/crankshaft in the oil pan. That should still occur somewhat by the no start spinning with starter motor for several seconds.
    My 2 cents
I extreme cases, like an RV that was not started in a year or more, I would pull the plugs and put a lubricant into each cylinder.

    Way over kill!

I've been riding 4 strokes motorcycles for +40 years and never did anything like this (winter here is about 6 months we cannot ride at all) with 0 issue. Connect the battery (mine is still on the motorcycle with a trickle charger), check fluids level, start it, check for leak, check tire pressure, let it run for couple minutes and drive her slow for the first mile or so and have a happy life!

Before you mention motorcycle engine are not built like cars, look at the bearing exact same type of bearing shells just smaller, same type of camshaft journals also.

I think you’re looking for trouble pulling plugs and all this. Keep the battery tender on it, start it up let it warm for 5-10 minutes and as said above drive easy for first few miles. I’ve stored many many vehicles over long Michigan crappy winters and done this without issue.

I stabil the gas, check the tire pressures, and wax, hook up battery tenders for months

Can't believe this is still going with terrible suggestions.

Its 5 months not 5 years.

Agreed 5 months is no big deal. No precautions are needed just check the levels and make sure a cat is not sleeping in the fan. And fire her up.
Good that you filled with ethanol free, that fuel will last well over a year
