    4-Runner Friends,

I need to replace the front brakes on my 2002 4-Runner. A couple of years ago someone I met said to replace the rotors with Tundra rotors. I'm not sure but I believe he said to use 2004 Tundra rotors for better braking. Does anyone have any knowledge or advice on this?

    Thanks,

    Dennis

Hi 4-Runner Friends, I live in north Georgia, original owner with over 215,000 enjoyable miles. I'm looking for advice on replacing the rotors on my upcoming brake work. Someone recommended replacing the 4-Runner rotors with Tundra rotors. I believe he said 2004 Tundra but not sure.

Any recommendations or advice is greatly appreciated.

    Thank you!

    Dennis

hi, yes there is such a thing as the Tundra Brake Upgrade(TBU) it involve replacing the rotors and calipers with Toyota tundra parts. This upgrade is only possible if you have 16" wheels or greater, if your 4runner has the 15" wheels then you are going to need a wheel upgrade also. I had considered the upgrade, and may do it when my 4runner needs brakes next, but once the set of pads I bought my T4R with wore out, I replaced them with OEM parts, and corrected the issues I had with the rear brakes(leaky axle seals, leaky wheels cylinders) the OEM setup has been sufficient for me. I will add that I haven't added any un sprung weight either(oversize wheels and tires) which makes the upgrade necessary.

Speedy's Garage online has the full tutorial on the Tundra upgrade. I did my 1998 about 20,000 miles ago. As I recall, around $300.
