Toyota says they could build a manual transmission for the sixth gen, but there isn’t enough demand.

    Let’s give them some demand!
Sign it and get others to sign it! We can do this together!

lol forum members are maybe 1-5% of buying public, you manuals are just a fart in the wind in the demand chain. toyota quit that avenue since there is no demand in the grand scheme of things. its a profit loss all around.

So it's a chicken and egg question, if Toyota doesn't produce the manual in large numbers, how can buyers buy them to let Toyota know it's wanted?

Tell you what, why don't you go down to your local dealership and ask to order a Taco in manual in a color and configuration you want, and see what they say.

I recently bought a new compact sedan in manual from a rival brand since Toyota no longer offers the stick in normal non-GR corollas, and it was a pain, there was no choice of color, and the dealer had to have someone drive it 120 miles from a sister dealership. The government and to a certain extent manufacturers are doing a great job of ensuring the process of buying a manual is a difficult as possible to herd everyone to buy CVTs that are easier to get MPGs for CAFE, for those who EVs don't make sense.

The problem with this is that a lot of the folks who would want a manual transmission also don't want a turbo 4 cylinder.

Yes, a lot of members will talk about how they want a manual option. But, only a handful of them would actually buy a 6th gen, because turbos are evil.

During the FJ Cruiser's production run, it was exceedingly difficult to find a manual version. The production was artificially constrained.

After close to >20 years of no manual option, those potential 4R buyers already migrated to Wranglers and now Broncos.

I couldn't find one at the time. Similar to how it was hard to find a J200 at the end, another vehicle that people keep saying lacked demand.

I currently own two 2023 4Runners, two manual cars including a 2025 MY JL, but zero manual FJ Cruiser. Used FJ under 150k is impossible to find in my area. I don't really care what you believe.

If I told you that's what happened, would you believe me? Why would I make shit up just for you to repeatedly call me out for not being believable?

    LOL.

Okay. You do you in Wisconsin.

I don't live in Wisconsin. Finding a manual FJ with less than 150k here is like...trying to find a Manual FJ when it was new. It's fine, Toyota is not the only game in town and I'm not that married to the brand.

And I moved on to another brand for manual off roaders. No hard feelings.

you are the one keeping asking questions and openly saying you don't believe me, so you should probably eat your own cooking. LOL.

In 2023 I tried to put down money for a white ORP without sunroof and they couldn't do that either. Life happens, you can believe it or you can choose not to.

All kidding aside, I think it would be nice if they'd offer a manual option on the 6th gen.

When this new TNGA-F platform was announced, I got the impression that it was supposed to make it easier to make changes to the layout, and simplify production. You'd think that would lead to better pricing and more options. But, we seem to be getting less options (at least standard) and higher prices. I'm not sure how that's going to work out for Toyota.

Gotta wonder how many of your posts here are the same sort of harrassment I see above. No one thinks it’s cute. It’s off topic. Nothing useful offered.

Sometimes I feel very fortunate to have friends with all sort of combination of Toyota 4WDs. FJ with manual is one of them. It's 2008 if I'm not mistaken. I think it has about 60 or 70K miles. 2 tone color. Factory rock rails. Currently on stock size BFG KO2.

We just have to look at what Toyota looks at............sales. The first T4Rs were available manual, then those sales didn't make sense in producing what could make money in their place, autos.
I guess since the Taco is still available with a manual and the turbo engine, you could always do a swap.

Toyota missing the point - adding a manual gearbox option is one way to create 'halo' trim for enthusiasts. It might not be desirable as a new truck, but it will be the one to have as they age.

Two things nobody wanted to pay their own money for when available, and yet we somehow wish they would return. And, if both magically did return tomorrow, Toyota would be able to sell about six of them. Always wanting the stuff we can’t have….

I like the idea of a manual as well, but when they would be making so few of them, you start to worry about how much effort Toyota would take to sort out driveability, and making sure it works well with an engine that’s been dialed in to work with an 8speed automatic. The manual would be an afterthought. It’s very possible that would driving experience with a manual would be total crap.

The only really good manual I’ve driven in the last 25 years has been a 2000 honda civic.

Manual Protoge5 was ok, but it had a spongy shifter, and ridiculous clutch chatter at less than 10k miles.

An early 2000s VW Gt had infuriating throttle lag, so you simply could not ñ time the throttle and clutch for smooth shifts…it was impossible to drive smoothly. Same with 2017 jeep rubicon, but not as severe as the VW.

2021 corolla with the 5 speed, it was OK, the throws were on the long and squishy side. Not competely compelling, other than the fact it was the only way to avoid the CVT in the other corollas.
