    Hello,
    New member here.
My ABS light is stuck on. I have tried basic low end OBD readers including a hand held and
a USB to android app with no luck on detecting the issue.
Looking for suggestions on to what model to try within my budget.

I have googled this with a lot of results including the ANCEL TD700
    Thanks

I don't think you can get ABS from the OBD on the 3rd gen. I got a reader for my '98 a few years back with Toyota ABS specifically and it read "not supported". That same reader does a bunch more on my wife's RX and even more now on my 2019.
I found this over on T4R that has an instruction for how to jumper the diagnostic port under the hood. I'd check into that before you spend on a better OBD.

Hello, and thanks for the reply.
I have seen the youtube on how folks detect minus a reader. Wondering how the dealer would detect? I was hoping to find a useable scanner and avoid the dealer.

I don't know this for sure but I don't think there is a reader because I don't think the abs goes through the ECU. At least on the 3rd gens and older. Toyota probably has some thousands of dollars diagnostic tool but we have to use the jumper. We need somebody smarter than me to chime in but I would still dig into the jumper method. I used to figure shit out that way on my old '86.

Thanks again for the reply! I may try the jumper with someone who is more brave than I and has more knowledge on this. Yea, I am thinking Toyota must have some kind of too/ computer to diagnose this.

Cool. Just make sure to plug it in with everything off and then only turn the key to on. NOT start. He didn't really stress that in the video.

Exhaust all of the above methods before hitting a dealer as finding someone with working knowledge on a '99 would be rare and simply end up costing you a diagnosis fee. Hopefully you could locate a local garage that could assist.
