2004 4.7 4WD 4Runner – 4LO and CDL Lights Flashing

Hey everyone,


I’ve got a 2004 4.7 4WD 4Runner that my wife recently started driving to work. She mentioned the 4LO and CDL lights started flashing while she was driving.


I had her bring it home and switch to another car. I then drove it around the block (about 6 miles) but couldn’t recreate the issue. I engaged 4LO and CDL with no problems at all. I also checked the transfer case for leaks, and everything looks fine there—no issues.


I’ve done some digging on forums and Facebook groups but haven’t found anything specific to this problem. Has anyone here experienced something similar or have any insight into what might be causing the lights to flash intermittently?

Wheel speed sensor going out? Possibly one of the solenoids for 4wd got in a bind?

I'd see if the code was stored in the ECU first and report back. It should save some history for you

 

Possibly, seems to only do it when vehicle is started after sitting.

Once it's been ran, and turned off and then back on no issues at all. Will a cheap too be able to check the ECU or need a higher end one to see stored codes?

 

I believe so. You may be able to have them read at a parts store. Autozone/ oreillys etc
