Hi all - First time poster / new 4Runner owner. I picked up a 2017 TRD OR over the weekend. It turns out that the front shocks are a bit blown. I took the truck in to Fat Bob's and their recommendation was new front control arms/cam bolts/bilstein shocks (0-3 front, 0-1 rear) for about 3,300. I stopped by Big O to pick up a canyon sticker and started talking to the rep who recommended doing a 3&1 rough country setup (+control arms and cam bolts) for $2500 through them instead.

I'm not sure how to compare either these shops (I suspect that Fat Bob's is a more recommended shop) or options. Thanks for any advice!

Note: I tend to trust the Bilstein recommendation more given Fat Bob's spent an hour with the truck and Big O mostly looked at Fat Bob's recs and aimed to beat them on price.

Driving requirements: Needs to be capable in the snow, not doing a ton of offroading otherwise.

Better off not giving a shop any info when you go in to them, and ask for their recommendation and then comparing it yourself. You might be being sold a service or part that you don't actually need. Bilstein would be a better option that Rough Country, unless your budget doesn't allow for it.

The lower arms and cam bolts would only need to be replaced if they're rusty/seized, or if the truck has been beat really hard.

The lower arms and cam bolts was a bit surprising. Agree with your assessment on not providing information. I hadn't gone to the second shop with the intention of getting a second quote and the tech had just inquired about where I was coming from and what they had quoted me. I may try to go to another shop to see if they also recommend lower arms.
