    I have a 2001 4Runner 4x4 and the tans crapped out. Will a 2002 Taco trans work?

FJRunners81, what does the tag on your transmission say? What does the tag on the Tacoma say?

If they match, it should be a swap.

If not, then I'd keep looking.

    2001-02 4Runner has ETCS

    Only 2003-04 Tacoma's have ETCS

Does ETCS have anything to do with the transmission? I thought that was more of an ECM thing.

Didn't see this post (not quoted).

You'd need to swap the valve body, harness and I'm not sure what else.

It's why you'll often see people state you need an 2001-02 transmission for those wanting to swap their 2001 or 2002 4x2 to 4x4.

I think this only applies to 5VZ models though, not 3RZ. At least that's the case when talking Tacoma's for 2003 and 2004 models.

Are there A340E or A340F marked transmissions with different valve bodies? How can you tell which supports ETCS?
