Can anyone provide any information on what notch provides how much lift? There’s only 4 notches on my 5100 and does the coil have anything to do with ride height or just stiffness? Like the title says I have 5100’s paired with 881 coil. Previous owner had all this installed so I’m not sure how much each notch delivers.

Not sure how the 881 coil impacts the height vs OEM coil. That said, on OEM springs, I got almost exactly 1” of lift in the front on 5100’s set at the .85 setting (1 ring up from the bottom ring).

    Cheers,
    Bob

Here’s my 2022 SR5 Premium 4WD after my local 4WD shop installed Blistein 5100 adjustable shocks in front. They reused the factory front springs.

I had them go two positions up from the bottom adjustment. They had another T4R SR5 in the shop that they just finished that they showed me when I was dropping mine off. They adjusted the 5100s on that one to one position up from the bottom, and at the time I didn’t think that was enough height difference for me. So for better or worse, I told them to go up another notch when they did mine.

I like the way it looks. I’m undecided at this time as to whether I’m going to go back and have them raise the rear just a tad. I’m running around empty of cargo the majority of the time anyway. A couple times though I did have some heavy weight in the back. I got a rear “rake”appearance on those two occasions. Lol.

I’m wondering if I should just go with some air adjustable shocks in the rear that I can pump up a bit on the rare occasions I put any weight of any consequence in the back cargo area? I’m not towing trailers. I may have need to maybe rent a utility trailer from U-Haul very, very infrequently. If I do, it will be a tandem axle trailer. I don’t like single axle trailers.

Those are standard factory size AT tires on mine: SL 265/70 R17s.

    Per Bilstein:
First (bottom) notch - stock height
    Second notch - 0.85 in
    Third notch - 1.75 in
    Fourth notch - 2.50 in

    Thanks BLKNBLU,

I’d long forgotten what my shop had told me regarding the height differences. So approx. 1.75” higher than stock at my requested notch setting, and with reusing the original factory coil springs.

Rick did you notice/like any difference in the ride response? I'm thinking of doing the same, new shocks on the stock springs. I don't want to lift as of now but I find the stock ride a little too soft and mushy. It seems most folks that have gone Bilstein are happy but I'm not sure how many stuck with stock springs.

I do sense a firmer ride up front, nothing super drastic. It’s a good thing to me. My T4R is primarily a pavement princess though. So far, anyway. Lol. Sorry I can’t give any feedback on running trails or off-roading of any sort. But apparently these 5100 Bilsteins are popular and well received by many. When I first approached my shop of choice, they quizzed me as to what I wanted to do with my truck, how would I be using it. They then told me I’d be very happy with the looks of the lift and with the ride in choosing the Bilstein 5100s. And, I am.

I think the biggest change I noticed is during braking. The front end doesn’t dip as much during medium pressure to hard pressure braking.

Oopsie Daisy! Apologies to Casey the OP. I don’t rightly know how I got involved in this thread. Lol.

I see now, all too late, that he has a ‘98 model listed in his title info. I rarely ever check that info though when I start reading a thread, let alone replying to it.

Quite often, if I am starting a thread as the OP, I will mention in my post that I have a 2022 fifth gen. Doing that in one’s post may help alleviate such confusion.

Looks like I did the same as Rick. Sorry OP...
That said, the concept is the same and the numbers are very similar for 3rd gen.
First (bottom) notch - stock height
    Second notch - 0.8 in
    Third notch - 1.6 in
    Fourth notch - 2.3 in
Thanks Rick. The on road manners are what I was interested in. The brake dip as you mentioned and a little mushy in hard-ish cornering or big, sweeping highway interchanges. Like you, I'm thinking of a little firmer in a good way.

Thank you everyone. So I went ahead and messaged bilstein on this matter. They said the notches were to only use on oem coils but if using ome coils the spring provides the lift and need to leave on bottom notch! They also told me using ome coils is not what the bilstein were intended for and voids the warranty.
