How to repair engine ticking knocking noise
    04 Toyota 4runner sr5v6. 200k milestone.
She runs li like a CHAMP all power, no check engine light no codes. Just this annoying ticking knocking that I cannot resolve.
I read that from lots of people that it's normal, but I dont believe its normal. Its noisy when on idle. Has anyone accomplished repairs? Would like to solve this problem.
Thanks a head to all u toy lovers

I had a "ticking" in another vehicle years ago I forget exactly which one maybe my Camaro. When I mentioned it to my mechanic he said it was normal I don't recall what it was but it was like the timing or some kind of sensor or something. This was years ago and I don't recall but I do remember being told it was normal. It was also at idle.

Have you listened to any of the many youtube videos on this topic?

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZxTmIEjgrk0

that video best represents the ticking I heard in my 2nd gen tacoma, and my 4.0 4runner. I did some research on it with my tacoma, and I also found the noise was reduced by using 5w30 instead of 0w30 oil, and it also sounded a bit better on 89 octane.

My 4runner has 205k on it, so I'm not nearly as gentle with it. It can take the 87 octane I feed it and like it.

If you're able, take a video of the sound and post it. Assuming its the sound I'm thinking of though, its supposedly not representative of a problem, and pretty common with these engines.

You can insulate a vacuum solenoid on the left side of the engine with a rubber washer. It will reduce/eliminate your noise. Remove engine cover, left too center of intake manifold is a solenoid with a hose attached to it. It has a single bolt holding it in place. Remove, coat with a little antiseize and place rubber washer between manifold and solenoid on the bolt. Tighten bolt lightly and enjoy.
