Hi all -- saw a YouTube video where a guy claybar'ed his windshield, then waxed it, as a means of keeping snow or ice from binding to it. Is this for real, and would waxing it prevent that? Any alternative treatments?

Don't use a wax on it, but there are window coatings that you can apply.

I don't know how it works, but Rain-X is magic. The water simply glides off the glass.

I had the whole vehicle ceramic coated and snow/ ice is a bit easier to get off the windshield.

In rain it makes wipers almost optional since the water gets blown up and off with ease.

Used Rain-X, switched to Bead It Up for the windshield, outside and inside detailing. Fine trail dust just wipes right off the interior surfaces.

I've never tried waxing my windshield haha but, Rain-X has been solid or any ceramic coat spray does fairly the same thing.

Yea I use this all the time. I really wouldn't call it a ceramic coating, more like a synthetic wax. But it works pretty well for the price.

I used to use whatever spray sealant I use on my car at the time of washing and I'll use it on my windows because it repels water. It works fine. But I wanted to try rain-x again since I was introduced to that first many many years ago. I tried it again a few months ago and found that rain-x is significantly better than wax and/or sealant. You can use wax. But rain-x is better imo.

I ceramic waxed mine this past weekend for the first time. I did a very mild claying first on the new windshields and it turned out very good.

I used Turtle Ceramic spray on the body and liked it --- and Chem-Guys cleaner-glass coating on all of the glass and liked that also.

Both were super easy to apply and remove with a light buffing.

I will try RainX on the windshield next time and compare the results.

    .
I used this product this last weekend on the painted surfaces and found it very easy to apply and to lightly buff out. Good stuff IMO.

And it only took about 90 minutes max to apply and remove AFTER the 4R was washed and dried.

All depends on how often you are willing to replace your windshield wipers, wax and other protectants will hinder wiper blade longevity/performance. Rain-X has been around a long time and works really well, but it does effect wiper blades too.
