    Hi!

Last year I bought a new battery and replaced the alternator...
My lights are really dim but get brighter when I press the gas peddle..

Also if I have it in Park just idling for any length of time and I turn it off and try to start it again it acts like it's dead..

    Any help would be appreciated...

Did you get an OEM alternator? The garbage you get from the autoparts stores or repair shops probably doesn't have a good voltage regulator.

Basically when you rev your car, it spins the alternator faster so you get more current\voltage so your headlights get brighter. Usually if severe it's a bad alternator. Honestly...a junkyard one will probably work better than any big box store "new" one.

Alternatively there can be issues with a parasitic drain or bad grounds that cause the battery to weaken or wear out early and not keep up with the alternator. If it were me, I'd put a battery charger on the battery, let it charge up overnight and see if the problem gets better. Then I'd watch and see how long it took to come back. Then I'd probably check for a parasitic drain and bad battery cables. I know I had a slight issue like you have now, and it got better when I changed out my negative battery cable because even though it looked ok, when you pulled back the insulation, it was severely corroded inside.

Do you still have the original alternator?
