Acceleration loss while turning from stop

Hi all, I have a 2001 4runner with 278,000 miles. I bought this vehicle with 150,000 on it. Great vehicle! I have had an issue for quite some time and need help. When turning left or right from a stop and accelerating the engine power drops and stays low for 10-15 seconds and then comes back with a vengeance. This is annoying and dangerous. I can make it stop by creating an issue where the VSC And trac lights come on (which shuts down the systems). What is the problem here? Yaw sensor? It has a C1336 zero point calibration of deceleration sensor undone code. I went through the yaw and deceleration calibration, cleared the lights and then acceleration issues while turning from stop came back. I am sure someone else has had this issue. Thanks.

Same issue 2006 SR5, possibly body roll due to 2.5" lift and slightly taller tires than stock for that year? I'm not sure though. Left hand turns from a stop is where acceleration and power cut out for me.

    ChatGPT:
The 2006 Toyota 4Runner SR5 4WD V6 does include traction control (TRAC), vehicle stability control (VSC), and a throttle cutout safety system, but the methods for disabling these features differ slightly compared to newer models. Here's how you can address these systems specifically for your model year:
    ---

    1. Disabling TRAC and VSC (Temporary)

For the 2006 SR5 4Runner, you can temporarily disable these systems, primarily for off-road use or in specific situations:

    1. Traction Control (TRAC) Off:

Locate the "VSC OFF" button on your dashboard or center console. In the 2006 SR5, it may also control TRAC.

Press the button once while the engine is running to disable TRAC. You should see the "TRAC OFF" or "VSC OFF" light illuminate on the dashboard.

    2. Disabling Both TRAC and VSC Completely (for Off-Road Use):

Press and hold the "VSC OFF" button for about 3-5 seconds.

Both TRAC and VSC will turn off, indicated by the corresponding lights on the dash.

Note: These systems will reactivate automatically when you turn off and restart the vehicle.

    ---
    2. Throttle Cutout Safety

The throttle cutout system in the 2006 4Runner cannot be disabled without reprogramming the ECU, as it’s an integrated safety feature. However, here are some workarounds:

For Off-Road Use: Disabling TRAC and VSC as described above may reduce the likelihood of throttle cutouts since these systems are what usually limit engine power during perceived wheel slip or simultaneous pedal input.

    Advanced (Permanent Modification):

You would need to use a Toyota-compatible diagnostic tool like Techstream or an aftermarket ECU tuning device to alter the system settings.

This step is complex and should only be done by a professional, as it may interfere with other safety systems.

    ---
    3. Off-Road Mode Considerations

If you’re using your 4Runner off-road, the 4WD Low (4Lo) mode automatically adjusts traction control and stability control to better suit challenging terrain. In this mode:

TRAC and VSC are significantly reduced or disabled automatically.

Engage 4Lo by stopping the vehicle, shifting into neutral, and using the transfer case lever to select 4Lo.

    ---
    4. Permanent or Custom Modifications

For a 2006 model, permanent disabling of TRAC, VSC, or the throttle cutout requires advanced customization:

Disconnecting specific sensors (like ABS sensors) may disable these systems, but it will trigger warning lights and potentially impact braking performance.

Installing a VSC/TRAC bypass switch is a common modification for off-roaders. This allows you to toggle these systems on and off manually.

    ---
    Safety Warning

Disabling or modifying safety features like TRAC, VSC, or throttle cutout can increase the risk of losing control during normal driving. It’s advisable to only do this for off-road or specialized purposes.

If you'd like detailed guidance on a bypass switch or other modifications, let me know!

Posts on reddit say it could be a wheel speed sensor or:
"I'm wondering if the stability control system isn't
    mis-calibrated.
A mis-calibrared or faulty steering angle sensor
could trick the stability control system into thinking
your turning way too sharp for that speed. This can
happen if there was ever a sensor replaced or an
alignment done and the system wasn't reset.
It would take a proper scan tool to check/calibrate
that. Besides a loose battery of low fuel level".

Other 4R forums have tried replacing the throttle body.

Seems to span from early 2000s to 2021 4Runners.

I forgot to post an update. My problem is solved completely now. I saw a youtube where the tuber said he fixed his issue by pulling the anti lock sensor, also I believe the speed sensor on the front wheels. I pulled the sensors and wire brushed the rust from underneath the sensors. I had zero confidence that this would solve the problem, but I figured what the hell I'll give it a try. Well, it worked I have none of the previous issues remaining. The only thing I can figure is that the rust raises the sensor just enough to trigger the issues. Loss of power on acceleration, anti lock activating at the very end of a stop and brake pedal dropping some, always had brakes though. The loss of power was worrying as it occurred when going into traffic and took 20 or more seconds to correct.

Awesome! I'm going to give that a try. Thanks for the update.

Yes, dangerous when trying to merge with flow of traffic (can get rear ended).
I'd rather disable TRAC / VSC permanently than experience this again.
