I'm sure the cartridge is a better filter design. It also makes the dealers more money since most people probably don't want to bother with it. I just miss how easy the spin on kind are/were. I had a 4.0 Tacoma (same motor) and it had a spin on filter on the top of the motor. It was very convenient.

I agree, the spin on filter is definitely easier. The 4.0 in your Tacoma is not technically the same as what's in our 4Runners. Do yourself a favor and buy the metal filter housing to replace the cheap crap plastic one that came from the factory. The metal one is OEM Toyota and was used on the Camry and a few other models.

Yes some differences in the motors despite sharing the same engine code.

The 4 runners version of the 1GR-FE engine has new pistions that are hollowed near the crown, new cylinder heads using hydrolic lash adjusters with VVTi on both the exhaust and intake (dual vvt-i) cams. Other minor changes are the ACIS Valve in the plenum was deleted and a larger throttle body is used. The air filter box was changed and is now over at the fender like the Tundra and the MAF sensor has been changed to the new membrane type. The oiling system was changed with the oil filter down low under the crank pulley and it uses a cartridge type oil filter now. The crankshaft has been lightened with fewer counter weights used. Other than that, same motor. :D

Engine, not motor. Also makes about 35 more horsepower than it used to so those changes must have been worth it.

Yeah the main difference is that dual VVT-I. I know when I had my Tacomas it would have been real nice to have this 4runner motor in it.

No problem and it actually works good. I only drive my Runner a few times a week but I can see the BSM does work. You can't go wrong for a less then $10 upgrade!

Got some rubbing on the front fender and I hated the running boards so they're gone... Now to figure out what rockers to put on it. I feel bad for anyone riding my ass... I'm tossing rocks bad!

Here we go is right! And the awning and shovel will be put back on it tomorrow. Ohmagheeeeerd! ❤️

I wanted OEM black housing LED and a not fan of the Morimoto fitment. Morimoto's fit my previous Tacoma better than the 4Runner.
I do think the Lexus LED(same as 18 Tundra LED) has a better output than these.

LED runs brighter than the 19W H16 halogen. Install was easy, maybe 2 min per side.

No flickering issues or extra wiring involved? I ran led in my 2015 Tacoma and it was a little more tonot for install. Had to use wire taps and run a ground all the while mounting transistors behind the grill. Wasn’t bad but was more than just a typica bulb swap.
The leds also had fans attached to them for cooling

How was the install ? Were there any mods needed for the install? Did you need to adjust them once installed ?

I was referring to my fog lights only.
For headlights I’m content with HIDs from Xenon Depot.

I looked at the headlightrevolution.com LED for 2014-2018 4Runner. I did some research on Amazon and narrowed it down to this direct plug and play LED Light. They are for sure brighter and white than the stock halogen lamps that came on my 4R. I decided to try these @ $28.99 before spending $100 plus. These $28.99 LED's are doing pretty darn good, but I have not replaced halogen to LED before this time. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07GWF2JXZ/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Install was easy, less than 10 minutes, no modifications needed, dust cover still fits, I did not adjust them.
