Center console lid foam remover??!!??

Hey all.
The center console cover on my 02 was flaky and cracked and snagged the threads and thoroughly wrecked one of my favorite hoodies!
I've gone through the stages of grief over the loss of the hoodie, but now I'm trying to redo the lid.
For the time being until I find some good material I'm just taking off what's left of the cracked material which wasn't so hard but the foam undercoating is proving to be impenetrable!
I tried Goof Off / Goo Gone adhesive remover.
And being foam I assumed acetone would at least make a dent.
No go!
The only reason I haven't resorted to a wire brush is it seems to have a surface that is at least tolerable until I get it recovered and don't want to stuff it all up.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

 

They sell new replica lids for cheap - alternatively finding a junk yard one isn’t too hard either. Not sure the juice is worth the squeeze on saving this one

 

Thanks, but at this point I just don't want to walk away from what should be a simple job.
Decades of fabrication experience in all materials and I've never seen foam that didn't run like syrup when acetone was applied.
So yeah it's kind of a mission now.
And.. there's no rush.
