04 V6 Tension Pulley Bearing

Is it possible to replace the tension pulley bearing by itself? Mine is still good, but I did replace all other pulleys, except the idler is only available as an assembly. I had the idler pulley off but could not find any numbers on the dust shield. It is quite a thick double bearing from the looks of it; pressing the bearing out and a new one seems much more straightforward than replacing the whole assembly. If someone has done this and has a part number, that would be much appreciated! I have seen a few threads where others have done it this way, but no part numbers were listed. I may be totally blind, but I could not find any numbers on the dust shield on mine.

 

I have the 2004 V8 T4R and I replaced mine, so I'm sure you can as well....BUT you replace the pulley which has the bearing in it.

I bought mine at NAPA, just walked in and bought it, what I did was roughly measure the pulley diameter because there are 2 different sizes for the V8 in 2004, one in early the model year and one in the later model year, one was 1/2" smaller, so I looked at and measured both to get the correct one, it wasn't very much money, so if I were you that the route I would go.

 

I tried that already, no parts store I have been to (or Rock Auto for that matter) only sell the whole assembly. Did not think to take the bearing to my local shop and get a good replacement and since its not broken (yet) not really motivated to take it back off .

 

This looks promising, however it will be a while (when it cools down in Texas) that I will attempt to change it.
