Anyone have T1D on here? Our 2 year old daughter was just diagnosed with T1D and I was wondering if anyone has any experience (good or bad) with the Omnipod insulin pump. She will be getting a pump soon, but we don't know if she will be able to get this one or not. We would like her to get it because it is completely tubeless and will allow her to have more freedom. She just got a Dexcom G5 CGM and so far we like it. Anyways, just looking for advice, tricks or tips to help her manage her T1D. TIA!

I don’t have any personal experience to share. Parenting can be so stressful. Good luck!

My thoughts for your little angel. I don’t have any experience with it. But keeping your baby’s in our thoughts for her good health.

my kid was diagnosed at age 13 he's about to turn 21 now. He had a Medtronic pump for a while but it got in the way of playing baseball and football. The insulin tube got in the way some times on other things but when he was on it his A1C was great and he was completely controlled. Off the pump has been a nightmare, his A1C climbed to 11.8 I think at the highest, however he he's back around 9.5 and headed in the right direction. We have done the emergency room and ICU when he went into diabetic ketoacidosis a couple of times (by far the worst thing we have been through). The good news is that you will get through this and find your new normal. We would check fast food sites before we would go there to eat because a lot of them listed the carbs in the meals and made it easier to figure out the insulin dosage. With your daughter getting the CGM and a pump she should be in good shape, good luck man it's a tough road in the beginning but it will all just become routine after a bit.

**my wife is a nurse in a diabetes and endocrinology department so she deals with a lot of different pump and CGM's. I know she raves about the Dexcom and we are trying to get my sons insurance to cover one for him. She says the Omnipods are really great for kids too, sounds like they have you set up with a solid combo

what were her symptoms when they diagnosed her? My son had an unquenchable thirst and lost 14 pounds over a month. We didn't think too much of if because football practices had started for the season so weight loss and being thirsty were pretty normal.

    Thank you!
    Thank you!
Thanks for the information, I'm glad your son is doing well. I hope one day we can find a cure and help out everyone.
I really hope she qualifies for the Omnipod. They are doing a trend study now to determine what pump will be best.

Luckily my wife noticed the signs early. She asked for 7 sippy cups in about 2 hours the day she was diagnosed and we noticed weight loss for about a month prior. Her BG was over 600, but thank God she did not go into DKA.

glad your wife noticed the signs, hopefully things will smooth out for you. My wife belongs to a local T1D facebook group that has been pretty good, the parents exchange tips and some of the local endocrinologists will occasionally pop in and answer questions too, maybe check to see if there is one in your area. Most of all good luck your family, it can be frustrating to start with trying to figure out what will cause glucose spikes or lows but it does get easier.

I appreciate man, it's been so tough to watch her struggle with the testing and injections for the last 2 weeks, but she's doing better each day. Her eating habits and vocabulary have improved exponentially since her diagnosis. We feel like she has had it for a while, but her body just couldn't go anymore.

The NP approved her for the Omnipod yesterday! We just have to wait on my insurance to approve it now.

Been managing a T1D for over 10 years now. He’s on a Medtronic pump and has been for about 8 years now. He’s only had one instance of DKA and that was the scariest shit I’ve ever been through.

It’s tough to see them go through this and try to live a normal life but they are tough little buggers.

They definitely are tougher than we are. She's been on the Omnipod for a few months now. We are adjusting, but it's hard for sure. Hopefully one day we will have a cure!
