2024 Full LEDs In and Out...Almost

Finally got my Diode Dynamics HP48 bulbs installed today. As everyone described, the ground wire for the harness extension was a PITA! I bought a 10mm ratcheting combo wrench with a pivoting head that did the job. The DRLs look awesome! I also installed the amber turn signals from Lasfit front and rear, reverse, and license plate LEDs. I previously installed the whole interior LED kit from Precision LED. The truck looks GREAT at night both inside and out!

The only halogens left are the puddle lamps in the mirrors. I have the bulbs but not excited about pulling the mirror caps off. I'm sure it's no different than pulling interior panels and trim but for some reason I'm hesitant. Anyone have any tips or words of encouragement?

 

If/When you do the puddle lamps, please take before & after pictures. I've been thinking about this on my ride too. Oh, I did the switch back LasFit turn signals and love 'em. They are sooooooooo bright. But I really like how they switch from white to amber.

 

I didn't do the Switchbacks because I was planning on upgrading my DRLs. I just need to get past my fear of pulling the mirror caps off. Right now...juice isn't worth the squeeze!

I replaced my puddle lights and did NOT remove the mirror. I used the method in this video - It took me about 1/2 hour on the first mirror because I was so hesitant and careful not knowing how much pressure to pull on the top fairing. The second one I did in half the time.

My son is a Toyota / Lexus Certified Service Technician, and he helped me install a set of MESO Customs Puddle Lamps, so I can offer some advice on pulling the mirror caps off. First, do it on a warm day. (We did not.) Second, pry gently with a plastic pry tool.

Even following this advice, my son managed to break one of the plastic tabs on one cap. My son says this happens more often than he'd like. Putting them back on is a piece of cake though.

I'm a new 24 4runner owner myself. I recently replace all of the LED's. I watched a few videos on the puddle lights, and this is what I did. I turned the mirrors to the window. I then used a nylon pry tool to pop off the mirror. I used tape on the mirror and connected it to skinny black rim on top (not the body color cover). Inside the housing, there are many accessible tabs. You can see the body colored cover tab towards the outer edge of the housing. I used a nylon pry tool to push the tab while holding the colored cover. It pretty much pops right off. Remove the 2 screws. You can then see the black tabs for the black piece that holds the puddle lights inside the housing. I started from the outer edge popping those off with the nylon tool. Then the housing comes off pretty easy and you can replace the puddle light. Reverse the process to put it back together.

Some videos pull the mirror off and do nothing with it. That doesn't make sense since you now have access to the hold tabs. By aiding their release, you won't be pulling as much and not accidentally breaking tabs/clips. I may have to do it again if I get the Morimoto mirror turn signal. I have Morimoto black tail lights, and they are awesome. They completely change the look of the vehicle.

If you are looking to replace the front turn signals with switchback, it's not a difficult process. I have the Lasfit on right now, but I don't like the blinker color. It's more of a fluorescent pink/orange. Auxbeam makes a set, and I'm going to try those. For anyone interested, I removed the bottom 2 bolts of the fender liner and 4 on the side. You can move it over to access the bulb. I used a long sleeve shirt and wedged my arm in there. When I replace the Lasfits, I'm also going to remove the plastic grommets in the liner to be able to move the liner easier. Those grommets are Toyota part number 90189-06236. You can buy them on Amazon or most Toyota dealers online for about a $1 piece.

 

4runs4sure, Welcome to the forum from Arizona! When I was replacing my puddle lights I decided to try it without removing the mirror since others had done it that way. However, I was prepared to remove the mirrors if I ran into any concerns. Either way, removing that first piece (mirror or fairing) can be intimidating!

 

Replaced the puddle lamps on mine without removing the mirror. Just take your time removing the caps but really not that difficult.
