So let me first off start by saying in a Honda Gear Head so i have some mechican knowledge. However to be honest, this one has me stumped.

I have a 2006 4 Runner V8 Limited 4X4 with 120k miles. I took it in for routine maintenance which included 4x4 service (drain and fill of all transfer cases, lube drive shaft, trans service etc...), they replace sway bar bushings, rear brakes, and spark plugs. Nasty bill to say the least....

Since then i have been getting a clunk from the rear when stopping, starting, and at IDLE. I did notice the idle part happens when the A/C Cycling. Now that i have put 1500 miles on the car since this all started it seems to be less apparent. Or maybe i just gotten used to it. However, what I don't get is how is the A/C cycling making the rear end "Clunk".

The shop that did the work told me about the recall that is so famous on these vehicles, but then concluded my didn't meet the criteria on the 4 runners that have seen with this issue. So they don't think its the drive shaft.

Has anyone else ran into this issue?
