Has anyone heard of this? I apologize if this has been addressed here. I tried to search for it but did not find anything on it. I just discovered it and it seems to be an issue on the Tacomas. Supposedly the filter inside the air pump will eventually break down and get sucked into the pump and emission valve causing thousands of dollars of damage. Here is a sample video (many out there)

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XO5d4MqZu5I

So this is a legit issue on the Tacomas. I have not heard of this on the 4runners but that air pump on the truck is the same air pump on the 4. I ordered the filter. It's only for prevention but it can't hurt and it's cheap, so I'm doing it. Here is a part number for the filter. There are other part number examples in the description of the video posted above.

yes this is on other toyota forums on old trucks with this air pump... the foam is set directly over the pump input..

the use of this air filter does not sit directly over the input port so debris will get sucked in around the plastic cap.. no gasket or seal the foam has marks on it that seals the intake port.
I would put some sealer around that cap so no air can get passed the mod filter.

So does our 4rnr have this pump also?
I'm getting ready to perform major PM on wife 4rnr and would like to know if this is also part of our trucks.
Nope, have not spent a lot of time under the hood. Been busy on the homestead so rooting around under the hood as part of a hobby has not part of how my time was spent.
Thanks for any information yah'll may provide.
plus does it look like the taco unit?

just found it last night...thanks....the parts lady at the dealer could not find it on here system. Did inspect the foam and it is in good shape.
No heat cycling decay and very little debris.
Brushed it down and flipped it so the previous unused portion is no on the intake side.
waiting on PCV grommet to replace both items. Cool temps finally time for detailed maintenance....

I would not flip the air filter so the dirty side is on the intake of the pump.. just like flipping the air filter for the engine ..

washing the filter with some gentile soap would be good .. it is foam ..

Bump due to post in "What have you done with your 5th gen today..." @Cis915 - thanks for bringing this up.
Very curious about your thoughts after a few years. I read in a few posts (looking for this) that you said it was loud.?
    TIA

Just an FYI the uni filter up-107 is a dry filter. I've read on various threads of people adding oil to this filter on the tacoma forum,gx as well as the trail4runner comment section. This is a dry filter straight from the manufacturer. The Amazon description of this filter is wrong on its description page in regards to oil
