What have you done to your 5th Gen 4Runner today?

Installed a driver-side pillar grab bar!

 

Changed the oil and filter. Greased the drive shafts (I refuse to call them propeller shafts). Good for another 5,000 miles or 6 months.

 

Toyota has to call them something different, because they already used "drive shafts" to describe the CV axles in their service manuals.

 

Yeah they’re the x8.5s. I love the -38mm look, but don’t want to do all the work to make them clear.

How does one grease them? What kind, and how often?

 

First of all you need a grease gun. There are grease fittings on each u-joint, two on front shaft, two on rear one. There are also one fitting each for the slip joints on each shaft. I use synthetic grease on all of them. I do it every other oil change which means every 10,000 miles. This is a pretty good video.

Mine is ok, but it's the lever type pump & I have a small pistol pump one. I have a new tube of Lithium for that I'll use on my tractor. Amazon be here tomorrow. I only have 27xx miles since new last Nov. I'll be changing oil @ 5k intervals on this one. I have always done the 10k W/last 4runner, Tacoma & 2 FJ's. This one sits a lot more due to working from home. Just ordered the OEM Oil filter Aluminum cap had that on last 4Runner too.

I pulled the gutter guards off my house last year. The packrat in me knew they must be good for something so I tossed the pile in the shed. 1 Piece was enough for me, maybe I'll find another use for these next year

stock upper and lowers control arms, but as I mentioned in a previous post, i have a 2” lift in the front via Bilstein 6112s.

 

Got my Carista app downloaded on the phone.....got my OBD doggle from Amazon.....easy peasy install......deactivated the dreaded seatbelt chime and set all windows to open and close with key and long press on the keyfob!

 

Is this a paid or subscription App? Do you have Apple or Android? Does it matter? Thanks. Never mind it's a paid sub that I don't need. Thanks for the previous post!

 

When I bought mine, the adapter was $20 on Amazon. The first 3 months of the subscription were free. Also, any changes you make aren't affected when your subscription ends. I forgot the subscription tiers at the moment. I think you can pay my month, year, or a small fee for a week. You're not limited to one vehicle either.

While I'm not a fan of these subscription models, it beats Toyota's $90 (30min rate), and some dealers won't change some things like the seat belt chimes.

 

So I have a 2023 I bought in Nov. 23 should I get a "free " subscription" for a time frame?? Never had Carista B4 for 2008/2012 J's/2015 Tacoma/2018 4Runner.>>>

 

When you get the adapter, I think the free subscription time starts when your make your first changes. I suppose if you're happy with whatever you've changed within that time, it'll technically never cost you more than what you paid for the adapter.

You also don't need the Carista adapter, just a supported adapter. The Carista app works with my OBDLink LX, and I believe OBDLink adapters also get you the free subscription period.

Can this thing also give you the ability to turn off the auto door lock and unlock when firing up?
I dunno why I’m asking because my wife already shot me down when I brought up changing these same features

 

The Carista website shows you what features are supported. I have mine set to lock the doors when I put the vehicle in drive, but not to unlock the doors when put in park. I think newer 4Runners with push button start have more options to play with.

 

I have an Iphone and the Carista App was a free download. The OBD from Amazon is a VeePeak OBDcheck BLE and was $31 I believe. Everything was quick to upload and went very smooth! Carista asks for payment but comes with a free trial that can be cancelled within the 1st week without any charges. Very happy with Carista and the OBD purchase!

 

Washed and installed a Prinsu rack. I found a sweet deal on marketplace for the rack and window attachment for $500. New in the box. Couldn't pass it up. Probably end up getting rid of the window attachment. I don't see myself needing it.

Damn right we do! I didn't have to change this via Carista, I only had to go into the head unit settings to change it.

It's prewired so just plug and play. They changed the pin arrangement sometime around 2020 so make sure you get the right one.
