My name is Melissa and I am in the market for a 2018 Limited 2wd. I joined this page to hopefully get some help/insight as to negotiating the best deal (and other information further down the road). It’s been about 14 years since I have had to take on this task and it is making me anxious!

    2018 Trd Pro
I just purchased a TRD PRO. I wasnt expecting to buy a car when the dealer called me to tell me they had a TRD pro in. They remembered I had inquired about one a couple weeks before. I went down to look at it, and the next thing I know we are negotiating for it.

The dealer kept trying to get me to write a final number down that would make me purchase the car that day. So I did. They didnt like my number, and did everything they could to get me to raise it. Do not give in. Get up to leave and tell them you are going to the Toyota dealer across town. Tell them for the price they are offering, you’d rather wait for the 2019 models. Tell them you are not happy with their price and you will call them tomorrow after speaking with your dad, your husband, or your boyfriend for their opinion, and get up to leave. Act confident and be firm.

Youre not just negotiating on the price of car. If you have a trade in, and they wont come down on the price for the 4runner, then ask for more for the trade in. For some reason, they seemed more willing to do that.

Also, you might be able to negotiate on the warranty and service contract. I didnt know you could do that, but afterwards I spoke to a lot of friends who did negotiate on these items.

If you cant get the exact price that you want, but it’s close, ask for something else then...such as floor mats, keyless entry, etc. I asked to have the chrome logo on my car blacked out.

Do not forget the interest rate. Make sure they give you the best one available. I know Toyota had been advertising 1.99% the week before. They kept offering me 4.99%. I ended up with 2.99% which I was happy with (1.99 wasn’t available for TRD Pro, or so they said)

Lastly, go with a full stomach! I was called unexpectedly when they had a car in. I drove over at 2 PM and had not eaten all day. I left at 830 PM with the new car. I think I could have been a stronger negotiator if I had eaten something.

Do not be desperate to buy the car. There are lots of 4runners out there. Have a cavalier attitude...ie you dont need this car. And it’s true, you can buy one somewhere else just as easily.

Good luck and let us know how it goes!

I agree with rockybird, don't be afraid to walk away if it isn't the right deal for you. There are lots of 4R's out there...don't be afraid of the 4WD babies either, they are hella fun! ;)

Good luck and can't wait to see what you get!
