Burning oil smell

I have a nice 02 Sport Edition w/ about 192,000 on it. It runs great but when I cut the motor off, there's the slight smell of burnt oil under the hood. It's not using oil in between changes but there's a fair amount of oil that may be seeping out from the valve covers. I'm thinking this oil is burning off hot surfaces. Does this sound right and what can be done, other than maybe tighten the valve covers?

I have a 2000 SR5 with 246000 miles and I can smell oil burning when I get out of the truck. Mine is due to a valve cover or head gasket leak on the left rear side of the motor. Not much I can do except tear it down and replace the gaskets, way to much work for a slight amount of oil loss and the smell.

 

That's what I figured. It doesn't seem to be running short between oil changes so I may just live with it.

Most likely you are leaking oil from the valve cover gasket and it is dripping onto the exhaust and burning. My valve cover gasket leaks, but I don't smell any burning. I keep checking my oil every week, I recommend doing the same. Hope this helps!!
