I am thinking about 4”lift and 33”s for my 2016 Pro. Anyone have experience with mileage effects of such modifications?

I don't know that you'll find a lot of 4" DD lifts on here, it's a hair more than most guys opt for.

Tire type and weight will also effect the MPGs.

With my 2.5", C rated 33s", I see 14 town, 17 ish highway. It's bad. When I had E rated 33s" it was even worse...

Depending on my driving style I see between 14 and 16mpg average.

I sit at about 16.5mpg and if i take the interstate for a long trip, being in south Fl i can get 23mpg and when i hit the hills of GA i get about 18 on the highway. This is also with a bumper and winch.

I just put 33s on with an Icon Stage 7; gives 3.5" in the front, 3" in the back (with the Overland coils). Did a road trip this past weekend and tracked mileage. I average just at 18mpg, which includes highway (mountains and foothills) and city streets.

On the way to work today, about 30 miles, mostly highway but stop and go for about a third of it, I averaged about 19.0 mpg. One important note: I accelerate slowly, and typically drive below the speed limit.

My truck is heavy, too. With all of my modifications and gear, I'm nearly 2000 lbs. heavier than stock.

With the added weight have you planned on any brake upgrades? Gears? Axles? After market transmission cooler?

With your added gear at 2k pounds you’ve got to be extremely close or at GVWR

    Identical here. 14-17..

Bro, i shot out to wendover friday night to get silly at the casinos, and the WIND was hell. Bad enough the big rigs where pulled off to the side, which, im sure you've seen on I80 before...

With cruise on, the damn rig wanted to LIVE in 4th gear 95% of the time, and some times, drop to 3rd gear, throwing the needle to 5k-rpm just to maintain 78. (limit is 80). Freaked me out. I for sure thought id see a rod push through the block, or some shit. I got high 12s on that trip. Im still pretty damn shocked, how gutless, and weak this 4.0 is, and for how gutless, the shit mileage lol.

Love my runner, but good hell. It needs some improvement on several things. Must happen imho....

Usually in adverse weather conditions you'll want to drop your speed, right? Just don't do it like Californians. If there's a sprinkle of rain, most people drop to 35mph while the rest speed up to 100mph and swerve around everyone going slow.

I re-geared to 4.88, which was necessary. Better acceleration from the start, and helps compensate for weight and larger diameter (33") tires--nothing off the charts but noticeably better than stock gears. An upgrade to the brakes isn't yet on the radar; right now, they perform as well as stock (I think)--I note here that I haven't had to really do any aggressive braking, but standard driving speeds and braking seem the same as prior to the mods.

However, the truck needs more power. What's next is the Magnusson Supercharger to give the truck more power, and will probably couple it with a catback system. Driving the highway in the mountains was okay, but I'd like a little more acceleration (power) and consistency on the steeper and longer stretches of road. There was no way I was keeping pace with traffic without pushing non-stop 4-5k rpms/plus for the climbing

    ~4,400 to 4,800 lbs. is stock curb weight--trim level dependent; I re-geared to 4.88.

my family member has the V8 4runner limited .. drove it a few times I liked it drove like my V8 GM truck and sedan ..
so with my GM truck 16 yrs old I got the 2016 4runner .. vehicle is great on production quality but the V6 lacks torque .. yes it does drop down into lower gears if your on hywy with even small hills ..

years ago I did drive I 80 full length and having a V8 GM sedan loaded up to visit relatives never had an issue with down shifting ..

because this is so heavy should have a V8 engine .. also 5000LBS tow rating IMO is B/S...

In hilly areas or when towing I just drop it into 4th gear and leave it; I don't feel that it is an issue of being underpowered so much as the transmission is always trying to get into the highest gear it can to save fuel. Add 2,000 lbs to it and yeah, it'll probably be underpowered.

When we moved cross country, my then-'14 TE with mild lift and 285s was getting 16 mpg avg. The sections of 80 in Wyoming and Nevada that were super windy knocked it down a good bit to 14 mpg avg. It's funny, that east wind is brutal not only on the ground but in the sky. If you fly cross country you'll notice it takes less time to fly west to east than east to west. A few years ago on Rt 2 in Montana my motorcycle mileage dropped 10 mpg battling that east wind.

I didn't lose any fuel economy going to a 255/80R17, but the combination of a full set of steel skid plates (+250 lbs over stock weight) with a nearly 4" front and 3" rear lift cost me about 1 mpg.

Mine is bone stock, but the mileage sucks!!
I knew it before I purchased it. I just love 4-Runners. It is what it is.
Please Toyota...do NOT make an electric 4-Runner. I'll continue to pay for the gas.

The shitty mileage is just part of driving a luxury tank. I knew it and accepted it before I bought mine. I drive slower when I have the time to get better mileage, but if I'm in a hurry I just pay up and deal with it.

I mean getting 2-3mpg less adds up to roughly $10-$15 more depending on gas prices. Skip the starbucks.

Or, If you drive as much as I do, roughly $900/year at current gas prices at 14 MPG vs 17 MPG. Which is more than my winch cost. And it would be higher in other states.

Given the choice, I'll drive a little slower, and skip the Starbucks, and have money for mods.

I’m in the same boat roughly. Usually fill up twice a week if not more. Long story short, smiles per gallon:woot:
