Hi All , I know i have seen this thread on here but cannot locate it now . My question is does anybody have a solution to getting the fog lights to work independent of the headlights . On my 2018 , the fogs will only operate with the headlights on . I would like to use the fogs at times without having the headlights on . Any help is much appreciated . Thanks

That’s funny, I sold my 2012 Tacoma for my 4Runner and was pissed that is was this much work. I’ll end up doing it though, I like having my fogs on my brights.

I'm tempted to just run new wires and switch for fogs. Just leave stock wires unplugged.

Going to do this mod also, but want to do it a bit different,
Does anyone know what wire under the dash is for the marker lights?
Instead of how Antman did it so its accessory power telling it when it can come on, I want to tie that to the marker lights.
I never need the fogs on by themselves, and I like to run my marker lights and fogs alot.

I wish I had known someone had already don’t the leg work when I did mine. I used a wiring diagram to figure out what I needed to do and to make the factory fog light switch control an external relay to power on the fogs through it’s exiating wiring whenever I want them on.

I’m considering the Rigid SAE fog’s and will more than likely wore in a switch to one of my spare relays under the hood.

I really don’t feel like digging into the OE electrical and opening myself up for potential gremlins in the future.

Hmmm not really sure why their needed to be on with nothing else. I think (?? I need to check) mine come on when I have my light control switched to DRL "daytime running lights." Now I need to check when I get home reading this thread they probably don't.

I miss the "automatic" setting my other car had and I think the Limited does.

Stock,, the fogs will only come on with low beams, I dont even think they will come on with DRL.

I think I will do this mod and tap into the "Tail" fuse, which should do what I want.
Only supply switching/control power to the relay when the tail/marker lights are on.
This way I can basically leave the fog light switch on, and any time I have my marker lights, or low, or high beams on, the fogs will come on.
That way I can flip one switch (the factory light switch) to off, and everything will turn off.

I wonder if it would be easier to make them turn on/off at the same time as the DTR's, rather than "anytime". Kinda like a "almost anytime" mod.

The anytime fog mod is too much for me. I just don't wanna go there with the wiring. But I wonder if what I describe above could be accomplished more easily- kinda like the Tacoma mod.

Am I making sense? I'm not smart enough to do the legwork here. But I'd be totally happy with switchable fogs along with DTR's.

You can add a switch like that, but there is really no need. Unless you just REALLY dont want to cut into the factory fog light switch wires.
But, honestly, you are going to have to cut SOMEthing, no matter how you do it.
I personally dont want to take up a switch spot for the fogs, since there is already a switch there for them.

As far as making them run with the DTRs,, I assume you mean DRL (daylight running lights)?
That would be the same procedure as what I want to do, tapping into the "Tail" fuse, except you would tape into the DRL fuse.

If you dont have experience with electrical, I can see where this mod would be intimidating, but its honestly not that bad.
Just take your time and confirm what you are doing before you do it.

I disagree, unplug the lights at the lights and bypass all of the factory wiring. You can make (or buy) a simple relay harness, some pigtails with connectors for the lights and switching your choosing. It would be no more complicated than wiring in a light bar or ditch lights and it would completely reverseable without cutting or modifying any of the stock vehicle wiring.

True, if your main concern is not messing with factory wiring, you could certainly go that route.
I dont mind cutting the factory wiring, so for me its actually less work to just do the mod to the factory switch, which I would rather use anyway.
Hell, I modded how the turn signals and marker lights worked on my Tacoma, I cant leave anything alone. haha

Yeah personally I prefer to use factory wiring as much as possible, I don’t like when things look modified. I want stuff to look stock but better and more functional.

Actually this is a great idea. Lights would likely be brighter with a harness to the battery. Harness would likely be more stout. Fully and easily reversible.

If you went with the above option you could repurpose the factory fog switch and harness to grill lights, led fogs, something. The factory fog is 19w I think so probaly shouldnt toss 55w lights on there but idk. Still a low beam only option but would hate to loose a free switch pre wired & ready to go.

you can make the factory fog light switch up to 30 amps with using the relay in the wiring harness that I showed earlier.

I forget what wattage the factory fogs are, but Im betting even a nice LED upgrade would be the same, or less wattage.
Now, a 35 or 55w HID,, that would probably not be a good idea.
