If you had 1k to spend...

What would you do to your pretty much stock near-new (4500 miles) Offroad Premium? I have this craving to do "something" to it but at a loss as to what. I have bought tires (stock size KO2s) and put a very mild level on the front with a Cornfed spacer. I was thinking of going with Bilstein 5100s all around but... the factory stuff is brand new. Also considering rock sliders/winch bumpers/etc.

I don't do much hard-core 'wheeling (yet). I just want to make my baby "mine". What would y'all do? All opinions welcome!

 

I would probably go with sliders first and the remainder $ into the rifle barrel fund.

 

I’ve done sliders, skid, tires, and bilstein lift. The biggest impact was the supension. That’s the one thing I think every non-pro 4Runner needs.

 

Sliders, then with the next $1000 skid plates.

You already have KO2s. For 1k you can get a Viper Cut and a cheap rear steel bumper. Those two mods can take you to a lot of places.

 

No need to go there some good suggestion here, it's not like your asking how to save money. I'm pretty much in the same boat as you. OEM sliders $608 and Diode Dynamic fog lights. Sliders to protect from door dings and amber fog lights to see in the rain. I think that $900 well spent and some left over for beers.

 

Well since a viper cut is the cost of a razor blade you could pair it with anything. But what quality rear bumper are you getting for 1k lol

I did WD slider shortly after I bought mine which essentially fills that 1k budget.
Other than that I put a Gobi rack and ditch lights. Happy with everything else I have the way it is. When my stock tires are done I’ll get some slightly bigger and better ones.

I have a brand new C4 front bumper that I got here for 50% off a while ago but I don’t plan on installing it before I get the new tires as I’ll get WD lift kit to level up the truck and account for the weight of the bumper

 

im very undecided on tire size and that will determine which kit I get whenever I make a decision. If going with 285/70/17 or 255/80/17 I’ll get the 2 inch. If going with 275/70/17 I’ll stick with the smaller one

i think you’ll be fine with the one you have if it’s the small bumper without bull bar and a winch that isn’t too heavy

 

If you plan on doing doing moderate to difficult wheeling I would get sliders. If that isn't in the guards don't waste your money. If you do any type of camping or anything I would get a rack.

 

Quality was the qualifying statement. Not sure how Ironman hits that mark

 

Better than nothing, certainly way better than your plastic bumper. Trying to improve OP's approach and departure angles on a budget. Put your glasses on and go back and read my comment again and look for the phrase "cheap rear steel bumper"

not really. My 2011 has them as well. I Just did a 5 hr drive last night to Williamsburg Va, 3 adults, 1 child, luggage and cooler in the back and saw a hight 20.4 mpg with a final of 19.8 mpg. No complaints here.

 

for me, its only Falkens no matter the weight.

 

You don't say what year but be sure your navigation card is up to date (~$25), then sliders and maybe off-road lights (?).

Lights would be my second recommendation. Raptop Lights, Grill lights, Ditch lights, Roof lights. Or stickers! Lots and lots of stickers AND lights.

 

You'd have to ask our resident Sticker & External lighting expert @djwantke I think he's spent $1k on stickers alone...

 

Another direction you can go is tools. I've easily spent $1k. Here's a partial list: impact wrench, floor lift, air compressor, jack stands, ramps, new torque wrenches (1/4, 3/8, 1/2), impact sockets (regular and deep).

 

The way things are going you might want to save it for gas, oh your not in California, your good.

 

Eibach Pro Springs!

I would like to remove the Pro Roof Rack and get a Sherpa Crestone Rack, but I don't really have a need for a roof rack. I would also like to get angled sliders with no plate or kickout, but I really don't have a need for them either. I wish I lived out west where I could justify making these mods and putting the 4R to good use on a regular basis. In three years I should be retired, the 4R will be at 110,000 miles or more, and it will need it's second set of replacement tires. That's when I plan to throw caution into the wind and mod it out! I don't think I could do a $1,000 mod. It would be all or nothing (modest lift, 285's, sliders and roof rack at the same time). In almost three years of ownership I have only removed the Predator Tube Steps and replaced the worn out original tires with Toyo OC AT3's in stock size.
