    November 2015:

Hey, just joined up. Got a 2014 TE yesterday from a dealer in Pittsburg, PA after wanting a 4R for probably most of my adult life.

I have a small lift coming, already got some Weathertechs, got an appointment for window tint, and am looking at forums for other ideas.

About me - full time cop, part time EMT-I, married, 2 daughters, other hobbies include camping, motorcycling, shooting, outdoor stuff. I do a lot of off road and fire road exploring and camping out of the truck in Ohio and surrounding states. I live south of Canton in Tuscarawas County, a rural area with a ton of old mines, abandoned roads, etc; ripe for adventuring.

All my trips can be found here, divided into folders by date and destination:

We are planning to move to northern California soon, so my time in Ohio may be short.

    April 2016:

We moved to Ferndale - Eureka, California. The 4R did great on the 2600 mi trip but I reckon I could have used some airbags:

Over the approximately two years I owned the TE I made some good mods:

This is how it looked when I sold it May 2017:

    May 2017:

I got a new 2017 SR5, and my wife traded in her Prius and also got a new 2017 SR5 a week later. Here are both when brand new:

My modifications made on the SR5 from 2017+ are here:

    https://meefzah.smugmug.com/2017-Toyota-4Runner-modifications/

This is how I set it up shortly after buying it. My wife's stayed mostly stock except for some Cornfed spacers:

    2.5/1.5 Eibach lift w/ 5100s at 0, 10mm driver spacer
    285 Destination AT2
Warn 8k winch on SDHQ hidden mount
    Tint
    TE wheels
    RCI skids

We took two month long trips to Alaska in it, one in 2018 and one in 2019, and were totally self contained and slept in it almost every night. The 4R has proven to be a very capable vehicle!

    Alaska trips:

    June 2020:

My wife sold her white SR5 and took my MGM SR5, and I bought a used 2019 MGM TRD OR-P and promptly modded it...

Both are set up pretty much the same:

    2.5/1.5 Eibach lift w/ 5100s at 0, 10mm driver spacer
    285 Destination AT2
Warn 8k winch on SDHQ hidden mount
    Tint
    RCI skids

    July 2021:

We bought a house and 8 acres in rural Mansfield - Richland County, Ohio. We sold her 2017 SR5 to a dealer in Oregon to make the cross country move easier and to capitalize on crazy used car values.

    September 2021:

We are all moved in back home in Ohio. I still have the OR-P. We're taking a bunch of adjacent state 3 day camping trips in it and having a blast.

    November 2023:

Just got a new suspension on the 2019 ORP - Eibach Pro Truck Stage 2R, which replaced the old Eibach / Wheeler's suspension which was just getting a little saggy. I was surprised to find one of the rear shocks on the old suspension was blown and I really hadn't noticed it. Also needed new ball joints and rear brakes. With the exception of wear items and the front differential needle bearings (replaced by the ECGS bushing) this is the first actual repair the 4Runner has needed. I have beaten it hard for the last few years and 50,000 miles so I can hardly be upset at a blown shock or a few other things needing to be replaced. I also got 33" Falken Wildpeak tires some months ago and have about 10,000 miles on them now; very pleased with them.

    Jan 1 2024:

Well, this may be my last edit... for a while. I have been itching for something a little more car-like in its driving style, while still being practical for chores and camping and hauling and such. I didn't want a "truck" per se but I wanted the usability of a truck. I ended up trading in the 4R and got a Ridgeline. I like its comfort and utility but I already miss the "go anywhere" attitude of the 4R. I think at this time my plan is to drive it for a while and then re-evaluate its ling term retention when the 6th gen 4R is released.

This is the first 4Runner I've owned having come out of full size diesels and several Tacos. I love mine man, pretty sure you'll be happy with your choice.

Bad ass,.... way cool mang,... Love the gun metal gray color,.. love mine. Waited for months to score a gray one. Whites, and silvers for fucking days, but, i held firm, for the color to come available.
Its funny, as it seemed like NO ONE liked the grays, for a long while. Then, seems like when i started looking, and got mine, every buddy now is rocking the gray lol. The new concrete color, thats out, looks WAY sick, i wanna trade mine in already, and find one of those lol.
Any way, good shit man. You seem hella happy, and that is rad. Keep on truckin mate.

Thinking about pulling up stakes and moving to E Tennessee in the next few months after 5 years in California. Exact location is dependent on whoever gets a job first. She's a NP, me a lowly cop.

Any thoughts or advice are appreciated from those locals in the know.

I'd love to live in Tellico Plains but I don't think I can find a job anywhere around there so realistically Cleveland / Athens / Maryville is where we'll end up. Maybe as far west as Chattanooga...

Edit, was looking pretty hard at moving to Alcoa, but work was hard to come by (Covid?)... canceling plans for now...

If you're looking for a helluva a good time, you can always join the cowboys at Knoxville PD. When I was a K9 handler, every year we'd have to meet up for K9 certifications (4 full days). The Knoxville guys (among 100+ K9 Officers from around the Midwest) would come up to us, or we'd go to them, just depending on where it was being hosted that year. Anyway, those boys are a riot, but also meant business. I don't have a single bad thing to say about them, expect for - try to keep up, work hard, play hard.
