I wasnt sure where to stick this topic, and, some searching didnt bring much up. What id like to know, from those that know,... is , is there any differnece, in crawl gearing/ratio that is different from say, the Sr5, to the TRD off road, or PRO tiers ?? Or is all the drive train, all the same acorss the platforms? (some differnet tuned suspension stuffs aside)

I get told/asked, "hey, nice runner, what makes it a TRD Offroad vs others" ? And, to be honest, i kinda just sit there and blink at them. Telling them, "well, mine has a lever, instead of a knob to make all tires move" is about all i have. I do know some diffs with KDSS, moon roof, and the ugly silver stuff inside vs the black, but,....

Could some one, tell me the real changes/difference, if any (and no need for "it has TRD stiching on the leather seats, or, it has a moon roof,.. XX doesnt) in models/platforms, that acutally MATTER off road, and such ? I would very appreciate it. I wish i knew much more, and stoked to have you/this forum to ask. Thanks in advance.
(to find out, the upper tiers, only have some more buttons, or heated seats, and stuff, no real real world, off road love,..... would be kinda a bummer tbh)

The TRD Off Roads and TRD Pro’s are optioned with the Crawl Control, Multi Terrain Select, rear locker and on the Off Roads only, you can get the KDSS.

Limited come with the XREAS suspension and the SR5/SR5 premium is the basic of them all without any added traction aid’s like the Off Road.

There other little bits here and there but those are the big differences

But, say, with the rear locker option, that can be very hard on shafts, the shafts are the same? Not like a dana 44 upgrade on rubicons? Hmmmm......
Thanks all, i learned more on those 2 posts, than sniffing around for 2 days. Appreciate ya.

I’ve had stock e-lockers on...4 Toyota’s now and haven’t had an issue. I imagine if you’re beating the piss out of it then yes, it could cause damage. I’ve actually seen a driveshaft snap before the axles gave way.

Good on you for asking OP... although maybe it would have been better to ask before you bought an OR?

My wife works with a pharmacist (who has too much money), and she just bought a brand new TRD Pro Tacoma. She has no idea what an e-locker is and she adamantly refused my offer to go out exploring on some easy two track because she doesn't want to get it dirty, but she liked the graphics on the rear quarter panel.

I doubt you are in that category, exactly, since you are talking Dana 44s and shit... but you should know what you are buying... :)

Wouldn't asking this question imply that you purchased yours because it has TRD stitching on the leather seats, or it has a moon roof, etc.? Otherwise, you'd know the difference in off-road ability between TRD OR vs others. I'm not trying to sound like a d!ck, it's just an interesting conversation. I know of people who bought TRDP for the looks, and not wanting to "upgrade" from OEM. I admittedly did not know every single thing about my Trail before buying.

What I was really wanting to know, was if the off road, and or pro had a lower low gear ratio than the others, or, any type of axle upgrade with lower gearing, or locker, and the like. I wanted a rear locker, the lever instead of knob, black vs silver/white. No leather or moon roof, and this fit the bill. I was just curious, if stepping up tier levels got you some beefier components. That's all.

Nope both off road and pro run the same componets, if you dont want leather or moon roof, the normal TRD Offroad is for you and has the lever.

    None yet!
Good question! I got the TRD bc I knew it had the crawl control and locking rear diff. I went with the Premium bc I actually wanted the softex and a moonroof....I have one in my Tundra and love it. I didn’t know about any of the other specs matching though....so I’m glad I got the Premium bc I’ll replace the suspension next year when I do tires. I like the rims but not sure if I’ll switch them out, we’ll see. May just plastidip then black.
