I was hugely unimpressed with the factory audio system in my 2018 4Runner TRD Pro. After some research, I decided to go with the OEM Audio Plus system. I performed the install this weekend. I am incredibly impressed!! The sound is amazing - especially for a simple “plug and play” system. Install was pretty easy though it took a while. The video instruction was incredibly helpful - except for a few changes they made to my system which I had to figure out... I had a $5000 aftermarket system all priced out and couldn’t pull the trigger. So I gave this a try and am VERY glad I did. I highly recommend it. Granted, it isn’t a $5000 system, but for the price and ease of self-install, it can’t be beat!

Can you post up some part numbers? Or a kit number? I would like to upgrade mine.

In theory I could do this. I have all the tools, even the same blanket they use to protect the center consul. I just suspect I would end up with a pinched wire and a Runner FULL of rattles and buzzes from every panel.

I was worried about rattles as well. Their current clips are pretty easy to work with, though. I have zero rattles afterward. Since I had the panels off, I also decided to apply sound-deadening material inside the doors and on the door panels. This helped quiet the interior tremendously.

Good to hear and that's a great idea. I'm no audiophile but I would describe the sound in my '18 Runner as "muddy." it just doesn't pop like I think it should.

I wonder why they did not design the sub to go in the space where the JBL sub goes. Seems like it would make for an easier install, save space and not cover the jack access.

The sound is much brighter than before. Certainly less “muddy.” There is a ton more mid range and mid bass as well. That may have something to do with sealing the door up with sound-deadener too, though. I was skeptical that the 8” sub would be able to keep up as well but it does a pretty good job.

I thought the same thing about the sub location initially. However, I figure they want to allow you to keep he access to the limited “storage” area on the passenger side. Fortunately, though, the sub is incredibly easy to pull out. You can attach Velcro to the bottom of the sub to hold it in place (it comes with it). Or you can just leave the Velcro off. I haven’t put the Velcro in yet and the sub still just sits there snugly. To get it out, you just lift it up and disconnect the two wire plugs from the bottom. Incredibly easy. Well thought out. Doesn’t rattle.

king 3" lift kit, fuel vectors, 285 toyo mt's, oem audio 500q, morimoto hid headlights, morimoto led fogs,
I got the same system although I did find some fallacies. Number one the connections on the 6x9 speakers are not in the same location as the stock speakers. Therefore you will have to cut open the stock wiring harness to pull more slack out to reach the speakers. Look closely and youll see the stock speaker connection is on the top and the OEM audio speaker it is located on the side. Poor move OEM audio. Also the amp I recieved had the plug in on the drivers side. the amp can only be installed one way I tried turning it around but the bolt connection would be at the back and there is no where to connect it from the rear. This seemed harmless until you route the wires through the door sil as suggested and run it up above teh glove box area then you find you dont have enough cable to reach the stock deck. My fix was running taking it out of the door sil and running it under the passenger carpet which creates a hump. but it then had just enough to reach teh stock deck to plug it. It was a bitch. Now for the sound yes its better than the stock sound in the premium offroad 4runner. BUt not good enough to justify 1800 bucks. I had a 2016 tacoma offroad with jbl it was louder and just as good sound clarity. go figure. Dont get me wrong the install besides the two things i mentioned was a breeeze all plug and play which is cool. The sound is better no doubt and the bass is a big difference, just to me not worth the money. For 1300 this would be a great system for 1800 eh not so much. IMO

I just came from 3rd gen Tacoma. The oem plus system is much better than the JBL system was, imo. Much more clear throughout volume ranges.

I have to agree with browndirtcowboy, I wanted to LOVE the oem audio plus system (got the reference) package with the speaker upgrade, but jus couldn't get it to where I thought it should be for the cost of it. I thought first maybe it was needing some break in time, nope wasn't that. Then I messed around with the EQ setting on my phone, played with the tuning on the stock HU and still unimpressed. Down get me wrong it is better than stock on some songs, but I felt with songs with more bass it actually made my audio sound worse I had to turn the volume down to make it bearable and not vibrate the panels of the 4runner. I even had to change volumes between songs too, some with the new system I was able to get the volume down to 13 or so and sound good, some had to be cranked up close to stock 40 or so to sound good. Then the next song would come on and it would be way too loud or way too soft in sound. Again not terrible, but for the money I was expecting more. I even texted Daniel several times and he tried sending me audio files to diagnose the problem and told me to try to velcro the sub down which I tried but we just couldn't figure it out. I ended up selling my 4runner a month or so again and bought a new 4runner and didn't bother to take the OEM system out....maybe I just got a defective package?

Anyone know if the Tacoma package is compatible with the 4runner?

Has anyone checked out the Tacotunes amps and processor system? I'm looking at pricing that out with speakers.

From what I've read on the Tacoma forums, I'd stay away.

So I recently had the system in my 2017 double cab. Sold the truck and purchased a T4R. I contacted OEM audio and was informed with some slight adjustments to the equipment it'll work. They'll absorb the labor cost for the adjustments and ship back! Great company and customer service, guys. Dont know many company's that wouldn't try to upsale you a new system.
