Help deciding on model and mods

Hey Guys,

So im finally able to be in the market to purchase my first 4runner. Live in Charlotte NC and truthfully the selection here is terrible once you start looking for models above an SR5 premium. I would love some input on what I should consider. I was looking into TRD Pro (order from a dealer) and my main mods I want to do right away is wheels, tires, leveling kit (maybe lift), and some after market sound system stuff.

If you can shoot some ideas my way on what to consider it would make this search a little less stressful. I was thinking about BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A KO2 Tire for tires, possibly keeping TRD wheels and thinking about a Pro Comp Model for a leveling kit and all Alpine for sound.

I've read on many forums about the TRD Pro Off Road compared to the TRD Pro. Pretty much the same outside the shocks//suspension system and some added accessories which you can buy and install yourself. I would say if you plan on installing your own lift/suspension and adding wheels and tires, then don't pay for the TRD Pro and customize a TRD Pro Off Road. I am sure others have more info about this.

Other cons I read about the TRD Pro

• No moon roof
• the slide out cargo tray is a joke - Also is about 4-6" high and takes up your precious cargo height.
• Unless your going to be sliding stuff in, or sitting on the slider, don't get it
• No side blinkers on the mirrors
• I am not sure if it comes with heated seats, I don't think so
• All other lettering and logos you can buy later and install
• The TRD wheels are nice but at this point everyone has them, one reason I probably wouldn't get them at this point. Although they do look awesome compared to a lot of wheels out there

If you’re going to heavily mod, don’t get the pro.

The pro has heated seats, I like the sliding tray, glad to not have a moonroof. I’m leaving mine stock, so pro is great for me.

 

So I started looking at new SR5s. I ended up getting lucky and the dealer just took in a SR5 Premium on a lease turn in. To me I saved $6k off a new premium sticker, truck had 21k on it and I got more options. It’s two years old but I like that it’s the newer body style and also could get the 100k warranty on it.
In a perfectly world I wish I could get the TRD Offroad, but really the only difference is wheels, hood scoop, crawl control, and the locker I feel like. So I say save the cash and then just add the things you need
