I'm looking for a bug deflector for my 2018 4RUNNER.
The Toyota deflector is pretty pricey, but being made by the vehicle manufacturer, I'm assuming it would have the best fit. I've looked at pictures online of various after market brand deflectors (AVS and weathertech mostly) and some of those pictures look like the deflector sits fairly high. I know AVS make the aeroskin type that sticks to your hood with double sided tape but I don't want to go that option, not a fan of the double sided tape.
In short, I guess the question is: comparing the Toyota, AVS, and weathertech (any other brand too) bug deflectors, do any sit lower/have a lower profile than the others?

    Thanks for any info

I put the AVS on my 18 TRD OR and looks and fits great. I chose the low profile option.

I ordered thru Amazon. They show 2 AVS models, if you toggle between descriptions one will read low profile.

This one us also a bolt on not double sided tape. All hardware provided. Hood has preexisting holes.

I only see a "medium profile" and a "full height" version.

Quick question- The front of my hood appears to not have much clearance with the nose. Would hood need to be adjusted back a tad? As to the AVS, I like them. Just replaced the one on my GM again yesterday. Seems about two years max before they give their life to save a hood dent from a rock.

I had no issues with clearance between deflector and grille. Pretty well fitted.

Anyone have idea what the difference is between this medium profile and the full height AVS?

Is that little weathertech emblem a sticker? Removable without leaving a scar?

DO you know which weathertech model that is? They have a "hood protector" and a "stone and bug deflector" on their website with 2 different part numbers, but no photos of the actual unit on a 4runner

Rumor has it that AVS actually makes the Weathertech....I have the AVS. I'd have to go back and look up the model but it's one that uses the snap in tabs under the hood. Was about $60 or so from AutoZone. Ships in a huge box because of its length and awkward shape.

No problem. I live near weathertech and went there to check fitment on both. The one that tapes flat to the hood was more what I wanted but the fitment was off by 1/2". No regrets on the one I have, handles the carwash like a champ. I've read in many places though that AVS is the same, being on sale now I would go that route

I could of sworn someone on here a few weeks back said they found an AVS logo on their Weathertech bug or wind deflectors. I'm happy with the AVS and it holds up in the car wash too. I'd buy it again. Whichever way you go I strongly recommend not holding all the plastic insert tabs at once while you're installing it. I dropped one into the engine bay and it fell all the way to the skid plate....and well that added about 20 minutes to a 5 minute install as I had to remove the front cover and skid plate to get it back.

I know this is quite an old thread but I didn't want to start a new one and since, teh model numbers are the same for the AVS and Weathertech. I just ordered the AVS 23071.. I just looked under my 2020 ORP and tere seems to be very thin space between teh hood and the front grill and headlighhts.... does the protector touch the top of the headlights?

I have the OEM deflector, but the AVS looks much smarter to me. The OEM unit is secured in part by metal bands that clamp the edge of the hood, with only a thin piece of some kind of plastic between those clamps and the paint. That seems to ask for scratches on the hood and/or rust.

In contrast, the AVS doesn't even touch the edge or top of the hood. Instead it's secured entirely with screws into six of the holes that are already on the underside of the hood -- and those screw into plastic inserts that you pop into those holes. So there's no real chance of raw metal contacting the paint. Nice design.

    Here's the AVS website:

    https://www.autoventshade.com/avs-23071-bugflector-stonebug-deflector

And here's the AVS instructions that show what I'm talking about:

    http://d12lrhf1a6n0y2.cloudfront.net/Products/DigitalAssets/isheetAssets/AVS/bf87.pdf

    Currently just $55!

I tried the AVS Aeroskin and hated it. this is subjective of course, but it looked like I did in 9th grade when I tried to grow a mustache.
I wound up with the 'normal" AVS one, I don't think it's the highest profile one but definitely sits off the hood a good bit, looks much better in my opinion, and I've had other AVS products on my older cars for decades, never had any issues with attachments or material problems.

Not the most helpful pic, but this is what the OEM looks like. Sorry it doesn't show the clamps I mention above. It does however show my dog's reflection in the chrome bumper :D
