It's about time to change out my shocks in my pro. Open to suggestions on what to put on.

    Thanks

Have you considered having the Fox rebuilt? If you want to try something else what are your goals or budget?

My 2016 has the bilsteins not the Fox. Don't know if that's an option with those also?

I keep it stock with slightly larger ko2s, just take it to hunting camp and use it on dirt/mud roads there

I don't think the Bilstein can be rebuilt. If you like the Bilstein just replace them. Everyone is going to have an opinion on what to replace with. I don't have Dobinson's but hear nothing but good things about them. Solid company with high value products for the money.

Me - What is the most comfortable suspension setup regardless the cost?

    My 4x4shop expert

    Suggested ELKA 2.5DC

    So I went with -

Elka, Fox and Kings sure are nice!

I think Bilsteins, OME or Dobinson or Eibach will do you fine

I have Elka and love them. But expect it's a niche most are not interested in spending that much on suspension.

Your 4Runner basically came with Bilstein 6112's. If you want to replace, just get another set of 6112's. If you're looking for same but better, get the 8112's.

Elka if you can afford them. I run OME-BP-51, they are ok, but Elka is like the benchmark for the big boys, even better than Kings.

I wheel my 4R as hard as its' limits will allow. Rock crawling in Moab is a blast. The Dobinsons haven't let me down. 2" lift. Great value for the money. They're smooth on the road, too. 5 stars.

@kmeeg any chance you can ask your off road shop why they like SPC UCA? Your recommended setup pic looks like what I had recommended also. I don't understand many well respected shops recommending SPC for top end suspension and so many people dislike them.

The recommendation was based on they provide the best alignment possible.

Also "SPC upper control arms, the ball joing designed on SPCs allows you to get about 80 degrees of movement vs the competitor which only offer 69-70 degrees".

SPC would be quiet than <xxxx UCA> and maintaining would be easy you can get it re-greased when you come for alignment.

Next time when I meet him I will ask something like what would be the best UCA regardless the cost just like suspension.

BTW they have a UCA video on YouTube also.

Thanks I suspected it was adjustability and alignment.

Or switch it up which you might feel like doing. In that case imo do dobinson's or even elka's as many are recommending for good reason! 8112's are badass tho I want em

I prefer to purchase from the shop I choose to install. The reason is any warranty issue shop will take care of everything as I understand talking with the shop.

Even selecting suspension I talk with the shop what would they suggest and why. My shop guy give me lot of info like what valving, internal pressures suspension have and how it converts to my purpose and different terrain.

Also if there are other needs like having extra weight like steel bumper or any extra weight they have experts to tell me what spring upgrades I need.

@kmeeg I totally agree with you and made same decision. Only call out I would have is if you don't have the ability to use a shop that specializes in Toyotas. If this is the case I would be leaning more on other users in forum. I think your fortunate enough to be in CO with lots of expert off road shops to lean on for advice.

Not all shops may sell the best product for you and recommend what they stock.

That’s why no shops recommend JBA control arms, because they can’t drop ship them to you and profit from being a middle man.

I just installed the Bilstein 6112s up front (6/4 clip for 2" lift) and 5100s with B12 springs (1" lift) on the rear last week. I'm not coming from a Pro setup like yourself, but this combination feels great behind the wheel so far. I'm also riding with 275s if that matters to you or anyone referencing this photo.
