    I like the look of this! What was your total lift height? I am going to be in the market for a lift soon and I'm going back and forth with this, dobinsons, and eibach. Only thing ill be doing is throwing a RTT on top

    This seems like a good place for this question without starting a new thread. Is there such thing as stiffer than OEM coils for front that DON'T provide any lift, such that the only front lift you are getting is from the billstein shock? Or does that defy the laws of physics ?

    plan now is BS 51 or 61 set at 1.75 and rear 1.5/2” springs- I actually like rake- guess that makes me a weirdo. ‍♂️

    I think Dobinsons would have something for that application. I like rake also but I use mine. I carry quite a bit of weight and tow often.

    Eibach PRO front coil overs
    OME 8295 rear springs with Eibach PRO shocks
    Trim spacers front and rear on the drivers side
    JBA upper control arms
    Durobumps front and rear

    It rides like a truck, just the way it should IMO.

    Yes, you can get front coils that are stiffer than stock and don't provide any lift. There are 650lb and 700lb coils available, but those are only advised if you are constantly running more weight in front (bumper/winch/ect...).

    Why do you want to do the lifting with the 5100's? It's probably a better strategy for most to lift with the coils and set the shock on the lowest (0") setting.

    That’s not a bad thought either, just seemed like a 5100 x4 and a set of rear springs was a nice neat (and value added) way of doing 1.75 front, 1.5-2 rear. Then I read some say the front is still a touch soft, which made think doing front springs, but then I saw that most who do front springs get extra lift and I don’t want to be above 2” max in front. However I suppose what you said would work just fine as well.

    I would advise not to go out and buy heavier springs because other people say the front end is too soft. The stock spring rate is fine for our trucks weight. If you constantly carry more weight in your truck than the stock weight, then yes, a heavier spring is appropriate.

    When people complain about how soft or squishy the stock suspension on our tucks feel, they are actually complaining about the soft valving of the stock shocks. Just by replacing the shocks, you can significantly firm up the ride (if that's what you're after). Bilstein 5100's provide a fairly firm ride while Eibachs provide a firmer ride than stock, but not as firm as Bilstein 5100's.

    So if you want to keep it on the cheap and don't actually need heavier springs, Bilstein 5100's or Eibach adjustable shocks with the stock coils will be just fine for your application.

    If you actually need heavier coils because you have more weight you're carrying constantly, then check out Dobinsons as Wally mentioned. They have lots of coil options for our vehicles and are very well rated among those that have them. I'm certain they have a front and rear coils that will provide you with the appropriate lift height and spring rate you're looking for.

    Not much weight, maybe build a cheap wood sleeping platform, and a 1up bike rack (130 if loaded with 3 bikesJ although not sure how weight on the hitch effects things given it’s position

    which is to say I don’t consider that much weight, but maybe it is?
    Anyways opting for lift springs over say daystar spacers for better function. That’s where I’m at, billstein 1.75 up and 1.5-2” lift rear, although figuring out what rear springs actually lift you vs what they advertise is also an interesting challenge.

    That's probably not enough weight to warrant a heavier rear spring rate. That being the case, you'll have to make a decision on whether to go the spacer route or the taller coil route. If you're really on a budget, the spacer will work. If you decide to go with a lift coil, I'd be willing to bet either a Dobinson C59-505 (1.5-1.75" lift) or a C59-325 (2-2.25" lift) rear coil will do the job. Both of those utilize the stock rear spring rate but with different lift heights. With the weight you plan on carrying, you'll probably be closer to 1.5" with the C59-505 and closer to 2" with the C59-325, but would double check with Dobinsons beforehand.

    Yup agreed, not worth it for heavier spring load. On a budget but not so much so that I would opt for spacer over coil.

    having said all that I do have one question getting back to front discussion. When you use an adjustable shoock and stock springs, as you lift using the shock aren’t you changing the preload/or something? on the spring thus changing the ride? Whereas using a fixed shock and longer spring to lift the same height but the spring is uncompressed? Just thinking out loud. Or does that amount of preload not make a difference . (All of this purely in terms of ride quality and feel)

    If you a looking at 5100s and aftermarket springs, you might want to look at the Eibach Pro Truck Lift Kit. Eibach's adjustable shocks (thier version of 5100s') and Eibach springs. The kit provides 2.75" front lift 1" rear lift. I was also worried about reverse rake but too me the look is just perfect.

    There is a 92 page thread on this in "another 4Runner fourm".

    "Preload" is a bit of a misnomer. As you move the bottom spring perch up on a Bilstein 5100 or Eibach adjustable shock, you're not preloading the spring any more than you normally would.........your spring is simply sitting higher on your shock and that's what's lifting your truck. However, as you move the bottom spring perch higher, you extending the shaft of your front shocks which has an impact on travel dynamics and the travel zone in which your suspension utilizes most often. So by extending the shaft of the shock at ride height, you will have less down travel (but more up travel). That could be beneficial to the way some people off-road, but a hinderance to others. It can also change the optimal travel performance of the shock for daily driving by putting you in a shock travel zone that is a bit stiffer.

    All of these nuances are probably not noticed by most people, however. You can put 5100's on the highest setting and be perfectly happy with the ride......it just depends on you. But if you're looking for the best way to utilize your suspensions travel, it's with lift coils and properly sized (and valved) shocks because it gets you closer to having an equal amount of up and down travel.

    does the lift get rid of the nose dive when braking? Both my 2015 and 2017's do this, both are/were SR5 Premiums.

    Eibach Pro Sport leveling shocks, Firestone airbags, and Baja Design fog lights...
    ...for the most part yes. There still will be some dive but in my opinion it’s a night and day difference over SR5 shocks. I have the Eibach which are valved differently but I have ridden and drove a 4Runner with the 5100’s.

    I went with 6112 in the front & 5100s paired with Bilstein B12 Springs in the rear along w Built Right UCAs... installed at The Truck Shop in SD CA. I achieved a 3/2 lift that sits level (w KDSS)

    I think I've seen enough photos of 4Rs with .85 front setting to just about settle the question. Looks like just the thing for me, or is at least a great starting point. New shocks, F&R (Eibach in my case, though) I can see being enough of a change to keep me and the wife happy. Stock sized C-load rated A/T tires will be the next decision.

    Food for thought? 5100'S all around. Front set at 1.75'' and one inch rear cornfed spacer. These are my beefy factory Duratracs 265/70/17. I am glad I went this route rather than .85 up front-no rear spacer. The ride is much better than stock.lift 2.jpg
