    Hello guys I have a 1998 4Runner 4x4 limited, the truck randomly got a check engine light on with code p1780 (neutral safety switch). I was noticing that whenever I would put the truck in Reverse and go back into Drive or park my reverse camera will stay on as well as my reverse lights, on the dash the R and D will light up indicating the transmission was in both R and D and will only reset when turning off the vehicle. Did some research and seen that a guy changed the circuit board and fixed his issue so that’s what I did I bought a used one and installed it. Issue with the R staying on in the dash went away but reverse lights and camera stay on while driving still. Now new issue when my headlights are on the light indicating what gear I’m in on the dash all turn off. I doubt it’s the neutral safety switch but at this point don’t know what else could be, any help or advice?

    None. Bone Stock. EXCEPT: Brushguard, tow hitch, both welded to the frame. It's good to have friends and a fully equipped garage!
    The switches, Neutral and Reverse, are accessable from under the truck. They are known for getting dirty inside, with trans fluid and dirt. I would say pull them both and either clean them out with electrical contact cleaner, or just replace them with new. OEM, naturally.

    IIRC, they are very near the top of the tranny, driver's side. There are 3 switches there, and I'll be darned if I can remember what the third one is for. The are screwed in, like a bolt, so obviously you'll need to unplug them from their wire loom before you try to remove them. A ratcheting box wrench works real well for removing them, but a regular open-end wrench works well, too. I just love the ratcheting box wrench set I got. They work so well on everything. All I use any longer.
