CA has the strictest emissions and still it’s 6 years after the vehicle year when they start checking. You could try to get the emissions sticker which says it’s smog legal but if they run the number it will show up to a certain year. It’s a simple swap back to the OEM airbox.

This thread, and buyers of the TRD intake, will continue as long as they sell the parts.

Probably a dumb question but are CAI's in general compatible with snorkels? (Will install one eventually) And can a CAI somewhat soften the drone of an aftermarket exhaust!?? Lmao after a 5 hour highway trip, our ears were buzzing!

Some intakes may work with a snorkel with some creativity but generally a snorkel kit is designed around the stock airbox.

An intake will no reduce exhaust noise.

I bought everything independently from BAM for about $250. I have not noticed a power increase but it does make the induction noise does prevent the engine from sounding like a dying sewing machine so that alone is worth it

These are factory parts. You are changing nothing that affects the mass airflow sensor. Just different plastic. They did offer a sticker that could be added that said it was compliant. Someone else can chime in with better details. I put one on and will never look back...

Look up battery hold down bracket by Coupe on here. He makes many versions for you to purchase. Great seller.

With my budget, I can't do the whole system Plus I live in California... I can find the cold air intake system (by memory PTR03-89100) at parts.toyota.com, but then it disappears when I click to go to any dealer in the country. It is prohibited for them to sell that to a customer in California, according to a dealer parts guy reading a memo from Toyota. I can buy the individual parts, but I haven't seen a list that I can individually look up all the part numbers and find everything that shows up in the kit picture.

I have seen parts lists and double checked with pictures of the kit and I'm finding there are missing components to visually recreate the kit.

I did have a thought, to get the benefit of the roar of the engine without buying the whole kit would be to buy the tube and the rubber connection dealies... A cheap and dorky solution, to eliminate the resonator boxes. I'm curious if this tube would work with the stock air box... Using the red accordion connector that you see with the kit including the two lines (vacuum & ?) connect near the throttle.tms_cad_prodr3013420.jpg tms_cad_prodr3015584.jpg

Exactly. All those weenie gas BMW drivers have a little solenoid actuator that opens up a hole in their tailpipe. The battery powered Mustangs have a speaker that makes it go roar-roar.

Taking out those resonators will add a little throatiness to the voice.

If I felt confident that it would boost my miles per gallon by the 1-2 MPG (that I have seen occasionally written), I would try to buy the whole kit in pieces; if I could find a truly complete list of parts including the hardware and the longer vacuum tube. That 5% - 10% increase in fuel efficiency would pay for itself over time.

By numbers, there are quite a few people that have expressed differing information.

Plus, in the context of my post, I was looking for the sound effects.

Either here or on tacomaworld.com there is extensive dyno testing by one of the tuners that showed zero improvement or worse than original performance with this snake oil intake.

There is a complete parts list in the first part of this thread. I used it to order all the parts for mine. Saved lots doing it this way. It isn't snake oil. If ya don't like it, don't buy. Heck, you don't even need to waste your time posting about it. Some of us like the way it cleans up the engine compartment.

If you do some research you will find independent results do not support any power or mpg improvements.

There are only two reasons to purchase one.

    1. You think it looks super cool
    2. You think it sounds super cool

That is true, however its like he has a keyword alert setup. Anytime someone even mentions the TRD intake he swoops in like batman to remind everyone that the intake does not provide a performance increase.

Did you read my comment, I was open to it even if it didn't make any performance difference, just for the sound.

Sheesh, hope you're having a better day than when you read my post.

PS when I did the rundown of those parts, there were components missing from the picture of the full kit.

If I recall..you need to source some rubber hose, and something to plug a small hole in the airbox. I also purchased the cable to do a direct plug in for the MAF sensor. 20 bucks plus shipping. Keep ya from cutting and splicing stuff. I like the look and the extra noise. I knew there wasn't performance to be gained after watching all the vids about dyno results and such.
