I am going to start servicing my ‘21 4runner. Looking for recommendations on interval and oil / filter manufacturers. I am a firm believer in Castrol and cheap filters around 5k but this is my first Japanese vehicle. Appreciate all the support.

Yours is the most often asked question besides “will it rub”.

The predominant thinking on this board, if I may be so bold, is that the 1GR-Fe engine in our 4Runners has a good chance of reaching 300,000 miles if properly cared for, and that proper care includes regular oil changes with Toyota filters and Toyota or Mobile1 branded full synthetic oil in 0-20. There might be some occasional bickering as to the viscosity, but there you have it.

Continue strong in your beliefs. By the way, Toyota OE filters are usually the cheapest option.

Literally any 0W-20 at 10K, or 5K if you tow/haul/off-road/pretty much anything besides gentle highway use. And, whatever filters are readily available wherever you shop. :D

I think the Gang has spoken and gave good advice. I would recommend you install the fumoto valve if you are planning on DIY from now on. It is not necessary but will keep things clean and easy going forward. Good luck - oh, 5K is what I do on mine.

Go to youtube and search " The Car Care Nut" . He is a toyota mechanic that has some great suggestions on maintenance recommendations. That and hundreds here.
