Hey yall, hope all is well. I am new to this forum and had a couple questions I thought I’d post. One is regarding an LED upgrade to my instrument panel cluster and the other is the “beep” and “beep beep” sounds made when locking and unlocking the vehicle via the key fob.

    LED Upgrade:

Can someone tell me which connector I should use? I’ve seen both the T5 as well as T10 bases. Also, all 2001 4runners have the ashtray light? And if so, do I access it to change it out via unscrewing the two screws located on the top of the mount (seen after removing the ashtray?)

Also, the beeping noise happens randomly. I’ve confirmed that the doors/trunk actually do lock and unlock appropriately, just randomly missing the beeping sounds. What’s funny is that when it is working, it will sometimes stop for weeks on end only after opening or closing the trunk. The trunk/beeping starting and stopping has occurred multiple times so I don’t think it is a coincidence. Can anyone explain?

If you unlock the vehicle and don't open a door, in a short period of time the vehicle will re-lock itself. Perhaps this is what you're experiencing?

Thanks for your reply. I am aware that it will relook if not opened. But the question is how to troubleshoot it doing the “beep” intermittently and not sometimes making the beep and other times not

Aside from me frequently and involuntarily triggering lock/unlock cycles from a large collection of keys while working/carrying things with keys in my pocket, that I'm not sure about. Sorry!

Were you ever able to find the cause of the intermittent lock beep? Mine will work normally and then for a day or so stop beeping when locking or unlocking the doors. Then an hour later start working normally.

Have you checked to see if all of the doors are locking and unlocking when it doesn't beep?

I have a lock actuator that acts up at times, and it will not beep when it's acting up. It seems like these have a tendency to fail occasionally, as I've read about others having the same problem.

Might be way off base but are you also using the key to lock or unlock? I forget the combination but back on my Taco if I used the key to lock 2 or 3x, I think it killed the beep until I double unlocked it with the key

Under normal circumstances all doors and lift gate lock (single beep, single flash) and unlock (double beep, double flash) no problem with the remote. When a door is left open, long beep and it does not lock. As expected. It's literally only the damned beep that stops working. The logical cause in my case is probably the mouse that made a house under the hood (see previous posts). I just want to believe the good people at the shop were solid. They said they'd gladly sell me another diagnostic test.

I'll stop using the key and see what happens.
