Recently changed the fluids on my front/rear diff and transfer case. Been driving it lightly for about a week and got under there today to check my work for leaks, etc. (because I'm OCD) and saw just a wee bit of fluid around the fill plug of the transfer case. So I unscrew it to check and as I do, there is a sound of air escaping like opening a can of soda. Transfer case oil comes out in a light steady but not concerning stream. I let it run until it's barely weeping out. Retightened to specs with torque wrench.

Question: Is this normal or was the transfer case overfilled? Isn't there supposed to be a relief valve? Maybe a clogged breather?

Edit: Runner was cold when I did this.

Sounds like a clogger breather? Should be ran up and mounted in the engine bay. It would be hard to overfill the transfer case unless you changed it while it was on one heck of an incline.

Edit: was the air sucking in or blowing out?

just ran across a similar thread on a Tacoma website and someone said that it could be vacuum pressure, so actually sucking not blowing - I couldn't tell but I would imagine if it was blowing it would blow oil out and I didn't see that. Tacoma peeps seem to think this is a normal occurrence, but I don't know.
