Need ‘03 4Runner blinker bulb help…

One of my blinker bulbs went out, so thought I would research the neat LED options on Amazon. I did some research, and Amazon told me I had the right products for “front” and “rear” bulbs; since supposedly they are different sizes. (?)

See attached photos. The “A” option didn’t fit the front socket, but seems to fit the back socket just fine; heard a solid click-sound. The “B” option kind-of fit in the front socket, but no click-sound… And, when I now test all four blockers, I’m getting the rapid-blinking all around; which tells me there is still a problem…

Can anyone confirm which Amazon LED “front” blinker bulb size I need to make everything right?

A lot of the time, LED bulbs in a non LED flasher system will cause the "fast-flash problem. The resistance of the bulbs is so much lower, that the flasher unit sees them as a short circuited bulb. Thus, it gives the fast flash.

You can get a resistor to install into the circuit. Just what the resistance is needed, I don't know. You'll need to do a little research on line to find that. Just check with the company that makes the LED bulbs. Often, they have the resistance required, or even sell the needed resistors. If not, once again, a little research will give you the answer. Sometimes, you can even find a flasher unit that fits your vehicle, and is designed for LED bulbs. Worth a check, anyway.

Pull you flasher relay, see how many pins are on it and then order an LED flasher relay. Like one of these.

I have older 4runners so I am not sure of the relay location on the 4th gens. It's probably in the fuse block under the hood or up under the left side of the dash. I would reference your owners manual or turn your blinker on and listen under the dash for the relay clicking.

 

The "Flasher" for a 2003 T4R is not design for LEDS, that is why you're getting the "Hyper-Flash" effect, you need to replace your flasher for one that is compatible with LEDS.

I'm not sure but I think the flasher is behind the fuse panel in your photo, but as mentioned turn on your blinkers and listen for the sound of the flasher to locate it.
