I need to replace the A/C compressor in my 2006 V6 4runner. Does anyone have a write up or video on how to do this? An internet search returned no results for the 4th gen 4runner. I've replaced the A/C in other vehicles I've owned just would like a heads up so I know what I'm in for on this one.

What are you replacing? How do you know what you need to replace? I am thinking of the components:

    - compressor
    - compressor clutch
    - cooler
    - evaporator
    - temp/thermostat controls

Here is a FSM manual link:
    http://www.customtacos.com/tech.old/files/05FSM/repair.html

    Here is removing the AC:

I am in the middle of replacing a head gasket and nothing comes off without having to take 20 others off first. Good luck, bag & label your parts, and be patient.

BTW - I had to remove the compressor, but I had first pulled the radiator shroud (easy), cooling fan (easy), the radiator (pain - you have to drain your coolant, and disconnect your transmission cooler lines (messy, but easy)), alternator (pain), then compressor. 4 bolts hold it on and one is just a pain to reach.

I found a great fix, a NEW MECHANIC!!! After getting a THIRD opinion it wasn't my A/C that was causing my issue, it was that the previous mechanic who had installed the serpentine belt wrong....Twice!!! So it was eating the belt!!!!!. After getting the belt on correctly, I have had no problems. Third opinion..... PRICELESS!!

Yet I still find it disturbing that a second place wanted to charge me $700 plus to replace my A/C Compressor because " It must be the A/C Clutch".

I just had this same problem with my 2006 SR5 4WD. The shop is next door to my office so I dropped it off for an inspection. They came back and said it was the cabin air filter. $98+ Tax !!!! Wtf Firestone?!?!

Edit:: I'll be picking up a new air filter from a parts store this afternoon.
