Thank you to all the members here for the encouragement over the years and for helping folks like me figure things out.

After years of searching for a solid, used 4Runner—and then one with KDSS—my wife and I hopped on a south-bound bus this past Saint Patrick's Day to finalized the deal I had made the previous Monday, and to drive home our very first 4Runner... a 2016 Trail Premium w/KDSS in Barcelona Red Metallic. Although my lovely wife never saw it before, she thinks it's beautiful and is quite stoked about it (ditto for me). She drove a good part of the way home and thought it handled well, provided a smooth ride, and was quite fun to drive. It was a well-maintained garage queen in West Virginia and looks new to us—both inside and out.

The art director in me appreciates the contrast between the red, black, grey and bright metal, offsetting all those different colors just enough. Not to mention that it just stands out in the sea of black, grey, silver and white that surrounds us these days. Plus, the red stitching on the all-black SofTex seats, console, and door trim is the perfect complement that ties it all together.

The previous owner had a Toyota dealership replace the front differential just a few weeks ago ($$$). The Toyota dealer I purchased it from replaced the brake pads all around, installed a new battery, performed an oil change, and a fixed a few smaller things they found in their 160-point inspection. It had 73,848 miles when I first test drove it.

I also snagged—after a lot of internal debate and due diligence—a decent (some in the warranty business say exceptional) extended warranty to boot.

If anyone has any advice on must-do maintenance on a 4Runner of this vintage, I'm all ears.

We expect this new addition to our family to transport us, our camping gear, kayaks, mountain bikes, skis, and grandkids to all points of the compass.

It's been in the garage since we brought it home, as I won't take it out on our salted roads until I clean and treat the undercarriage/frame/KDSS accumulator, but here are some dealer/previous-owner images of our new adventure vehicle...

Welcome to the club! Great color too, I find I don't see too many Barcelona Red 4Runners out and about.

Wow, you guys are terrific. Thank you all for the warm welcome. I've spent a lot of time on this and other 4Runner forums in the past while researching a potential new ride. I suspect I'll be tuning in a lot more going forward.

Looks beautiful--make sure you keep her well polished and waxed also; that is a pretty red!

Red is not one of my favorite vehicle colors, but yours is so attractive I might be tempted to change my ways! Very nice!

Regarding the red color... after years of searching I settled on Nautical Blue as my favorite color, but was open to all other colors except Barcelona Red—it was practically off the radar. I had absolutely no desire for a red 4Runner.

However, KDSS was becoming increasingly important to me and, being in the midwest, I don't recall seeing a 4Runner with that option in all those years of searching. When I finally stumbled across one (out-of-state, but still close enough to drive to) it was red. :(

The more I contemplated that particular vehicle, the more I wanted it—but mostly for the KDSS. Funny thing though, the red color was really starting to grow on me. In no time I was searching for red Runners that were closer to me, boosting my price range significantly to include more choices. I had three red 4Runners across my state that I had planned to visit—the first one being the only one with KDSS (the one from West Virginia, but now a few hours closer). I never made it to the other two.

Red Yota (Red Yoda) popped into my mind on the drive home from the dealer, but I have to imagine that that's been done before. The previous owner called her Big Red (I suppose there are many of those too). So, I'm still kicking the name thing around.
